I'm so happy that it's done ladies .... finally!! I checked into the hospital at 9:30 am and was in pre-op area by 11. They started my IV lines and had me change into the hospital gown. And some super comfy socks that I brought home with me. Before I knew it, I was wheeled over to the ambulatory surgery unit where I chatted with the anesthesiologist. I told him I was worried about nausea because I was so nauseous after my laparotomy in 1999. And waking up! He reassured me on both points. He said that anesthesia had come a long way since 99 and the scopolamine patch I'd placed before surgery should help. Next thing I knew, I was given a dose of versed to calm me down. I barely remember saying bye to DH who had to leave as I was taken to OR. Then I very vaguely remembered arriving in the OR and seeing all the surgery staff getting everything prepped for me before I passed out.
And then I was in the recovery room! I felt some pain right away but it wasn't terrible. I asked the nurse to help me get to the restroom because I thought I had to pee. Nothing came out and the nurse said it was probably because during surgery Dr O had drained the urine out of my bladder with a Foley catheter. It was so strange, I had such a strong urge to pee but nothing came out! That worried me a bit but later that night I was able to void ...so that was a relief. Before I left the hospital to go home, I was happily munching on ice chips and got a dose of pain meds. Then I was taken by wheel chair to the ER where DH pulled up to drive me and my parents home. My in-laws had come too so that was nice
Last night was rough ... because I kept getting out of bed to pee (my bladder felt full every hour or so). Getting out of bed was probably what causes the most pain for me. But during the day, I sat on the couch downstairs and watched TV comfortably. Very minimal pain because I took my pain meds when they were due. Walked around the house as much as I could ... I had a lot of gas in my belly from surgery and that was the only thing that really helped(along with Gas X). No pain going up the stairs. And (knock on wood) very minimal nausea so far. I've been trying to drink as much water as I could and eating small portions of broth, crackers, toast and plain rice. I thought my belly would be flat right after surgery with the fibroids removed. But I'm so bloated! Probably because of the gas from surgery and all the swelling in my uterus. Hopefully it goes down soon!
Thanks for all your support everyone! These last few months waiting for surgery has been tough... but venting to you all here has made it so much better.
ETA: I didn't get to talk to Dr O after surgery because I was too out of it. But he talked to my family in the waiting room. He told them I had 2 large fibroids and he was able to remove it all. And the surgery went well (lasted 4 hrs). He also said that he saw a very very mild endometriosis which didn't really concern him.

July 2014 - Repeat ultrasound done to measure size of fibroid - 8x9cm (the size of a grapefruit!) Surgery referral made.
August 2014 - MRI done which revealed 2 fibroids: a 13x15cm fibroid as well as an 8x7cm one. Super freak out mode over surgery plan. OB-GYN/surgeon said surgery would most likely have to be a laparotomy (open abdominal surgery)
August 2014 - After a 2nd opinion, plan to take Lupron x 2 months to shrink fibroids then laparoscopic/robotic myomectomy. Surgery date is set for Nov 21st!
November 2014 - Robotic myomectomy done (2 large fibroids removed, mild endo found). Benched x 3 months
I'm so everything went well for you and that they were able to remove both fibroids fully! I hope your recovery is quick!
