I am 32 weeks and I've started waking nightly with pain and numbness in my right hand. Sometimes my arm hurts, too. I'm not lying on that arm. I've tried elevating it and that doesn't help. Is this carpal tunnel? Has anyone experienced this?
I had carpal tunnel before pregnancy, both sides. I would wake up with my hands numb and have to shake them out....
now that I am pregnant my thumb and first two fingers are always numb, and sometimes my ring fingertips, too. Also my hands hurt, occasionally up the arm.
I have braces to wear, helps when I am sleeping to keep from compressing the wrist by laying on it or bending it. I was told I can wear them all the time except when driving....
you can try alternate heat/cold therapy to the wrists, but really.... it should resolve after delivery when fluids shift back to more normal levels. I would try the braces until then :-)
I had that with my first, I used a brace when I could. It took a few weeks to go away after delivery but it did go away. I couldn't use a scissor or reach for things a certain way it hurt so bad. I hope you feel better!
I'm going through this now. I'm wearing a Futuro wrist brace, drinking lots of water, and massaging/squeezing my hand throughout the day. Sometimes sleeping on my left side or with my arm hanging off the bed seems to help. Hope you find some relief.
