Hcg level hasn't been checked at 8wks

Hello ladies! I'm exactly 8 weeks and have already had my first prenatal appointment. I thought it was a little odd that when they ordered my blood work, they didn't order anything to check my Hcg levels. This is my first pregnancy with no history of MCs so I'm assuming I'm considered "low-risk". I have yet to hear the baby's heartbeat (wasn't even checked) and can't help but to find it strange that the only thing they're going off of is the BFP that came up in the office weeks ago. Wondering if anyone else is in the same boat and why haven't they been checked? I'm trying to take it as if they're not worried I shouldn't be, but normal levels would def give me peace of mind until the first ultrasound. Thanks in advance for any insight!

  • Generally betas are only drawn for those with history of IF or loss (at least in my area). If you aren't having any signs of a problem, try not to worry.

  • Levels won't tell them how far along you are and are usually only checked if they are concerned. I never had my levels checked with my first either as there was no risk really. Its not something they routinely do.
  • Also, the chances of them hearing the heart rate at 8 weeks through the doppler are fairly low. Mine are never heard till closer to 12 weeks :)
  • I haven't had a prenatal appointment yet and no blood work. I ha a dating us but I don't see a doc until Dec 17

The only time my hcg was checked was during my second pregnancy that ended in a loss. Also one beta draw won't tell u anything. What matters is the doubling within 48 hrs-ish. If you aren't cramping, bleeding, or doubled over in pain then enjoy these bumpy weeks till your first u/s (this from a woman who got an u/s at 6 weeks and saw the heartbeat). Hang in there, hun
