I thought that our older dog would love the baby and younger would avoid but it's been the opposite! Younger is very curious and not at all bothered by crying and older girl is largely avoiding, but I think she's slowly adjusting and coming around.

Surprisingly well! My cat, Baby, is a 12 year old set in her ways. I was worried because she has hated every other animal she's ever met (except a bunny she loved as a kitten). She makes a point to be near us for most of the day, when he cries, she meows to be petted. Just once, I couldn't console Connor so I set him down in front of me. Baby got super concerned and gently patted his arm while meowing at me, it was very sweet! This sounds ridiculous, but the bassinet is on DH's side because Baby has always spooned with me. She gets the same level of attention and importance as before and I think that has helped a lot.
Our puppy mill rescue dog (terrier) wants nothing to do with DS but doesn't bark at him or bother him in any way. Oddly this is better than what we thought she would do this early on. She has accepted DS but doesn't feel the need to be around him. Our other dog (boxer) has become quite the nanny dog, constantly watching out for DS, instantly at his side if he so much as whimpers. We had to teach her a new command -- "mommy/daddy's got him" to get her to relax.
Our animals have done pretty well so far. Lucy (our cat) is interested from a distance, which is probably a good thing. Tyler (our dog) gets a bit upset when Will cries, but otherwise he is mainly curious. He licks his head and sniffs his butt and that's about it. I think there may be some jealousy though because unfortunately the weather has sucked so we haven't been able to take Tyler on as many walks so I think he's a bit sad.
Our dog is less then enthused with DD in the middle of the night. He has been great when she's on her play mat, he won't even play fetch. I think he is largely indifferent to her as he still curls up with us at night and during night time feedings DH pets him.
Lolly (cat #1) is jealous. It's to the point where she forcefully makes me pet her and stares reproachfully at Alistair. I'm sure she'll come around eventually. Cooper (cat #2) is really cute and protective. He supervises Alistair when he naps. See pic below from last week.
My cats are curious but they are NOT happy. They spend most of their time upstairs cause I've had to spend most of mine with baby downstairs. If Jax is awake, they won't come near him unless I'm feeding him and then they'll only sniff him. I'm scared for when Jax gets used to his bassinet because my one cat was spending lots of time in it...I worry he's going to jump in with baby and suffocate him.
Who am I kidding...every day is full of worry since LO was born.
My dog Harmony is gentle as can be. She lays right next to his rock n play or bassinet, it looks like she is standing guard. When Caleb gets fussy she will sometimes start licking his head or feet. She has been doing a great job with accepting our new family member.
Ours have been doing well. I was a little nervous on how they would react. My mom brought some swaddlers home from the hospital the day before we came home and gave one to each of the dogs. I read this was a good way to prep them with her scent. My oldest dog doesn't really affected and the other two are extremely curious and very very protective of her. They follow me around everywhere I go with her and always check on her first whenever they come back in from the outside. It's cute.
She's been doing OK.. Very curious that's for sure. At some points she is acting out but for the most part she seems to be doing ok! This picture was the day we got home from Hospital.
My ten year old cat feels very neglected. She cries, stays underfoot, and is much more aggressive with seeking out lovin. She has also become much less particular about who can pet her. She doesn't really pay much attention to the baby, though.
Our 9 yr old dog is curious. He will sniff LO and go back about his business. If she is being super cranky/fussy and crying, he will search out the adult who is not currently dealing with the situation to alert you that there is a situation.
We ban him from the bedrooms, but he has been taking advantage of open doors to sniff and explore or just plain wanting to hang out with us. Until I am comfortable taking LO out by myself in the baby carrier, our dog has one less walk during his day, which maybe be causing a bit of cabin fever during the week when DH is at work.
Mine have been awesome. I was pretty worried about one of my dogs cause he doesn't like strangers, but he has been amazing. He is protective of LO already. He constantly checks on her when she cries.
My older pup isn't very interested in her. She does act concerned when she cries.
The youngest pup tries to give her kisses all the time, but she isn't super gentle. So we have be right there when the pup isn't in her kennel.

You can try putting tinfoil or balloons in the bassinet (when LO is not in it of course) cats don't like either of those and if they learn that those things are in there they will be less likely to try and nap in it.
My cat is very disinterested and has not made any attempts to go near LO. My dog who is 2 is very jealous, not anything bad towards the baby, just looking for attention and following us very closely. He sniffs LO but that really is the extent of their interaction. Just the other day my pup ate the entire bottle of Vitamin D drops. Which apparently is very toxic to dogs. So we had to go to the emergency vet and get that taken care of. Other than that both fur babies are doing very well with the baby home.
Oh yea I probably should have mentioned. He is ok. We have to go back at a later date to have him rechecked and make sure there was no permanent organ damage. But he is doing just fine.
Both my cat and dog is slightly curious. It's like... 'What is this little creature?' Emphasis on 'slightly' They sometimes look and sniff.
However... Bailey (cat) had gotten into this incredibly irritating habit of biting my toes every chance he gets during the last month of my pregnancy. It has been a week... No toe bites.
I took LO out yesterday for LC and chiro. When we got home, the two pets were waiting for is and they seemed extra interested in LO. 'So this little noisy creature is back?'
Bennie the terrier has taken it pretty well, but we are only on day 2. He sniffs her but keeps his distance unless we are with her. What worries me a little is that his eating has changed. We have to entice him to eat, whereas before he scarfed it down.
