Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
It all revolves around you.

Re: ~~GTKY: Thanksgiving Edition~~

  • Obviously turkey. And, well, pie. But sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce are pretty mandatory too.

  • Loading the player...
  • Garlic mashed potatoes and apricot walnut stuffing.

    Also cranberry fluff.

  • Can I say all of it?

But in reality good stuffing is a must.

  • I can live without all of the traditional Thanksgiving foods. I love them but don't limit them to just T day so the year we decided to go totally non-traditional and have homemade fried pizzas instead was met with no complaints from anyone.

  • Chocolate pie! My grandmother always made chocolate pie for thanksgiving and now I've taken over :)
  • Cornbread dressing! I love it so much. Cheesecake is also a must.

  • I'm really only into the ham and the rolls. Everything else is pretty hit-or-miss for me. Like @PipSqueak0313‌'s family, mine started going nontraditional a few years ago doing a shrimp boil instead. I'm so sad we're not going down for that this year. I asked DH what he wants to do instead since we're having a traditional thanksgiving on Friday. He wants tbones!

  • Turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. They can be made in various ways but I must have all four on Thanksgiving. I don't mind mixing it up with the other sides.
Me:41, DH:41 Positive for MTHFR mutations- one copy C677T, one copy A1298C. One daughter born on Thanksgiving in 2013. Six losses.
  • Homemade stuffing with fresh herbs. Stuffed into the bird is best.

  • Pie. And I'm pretty partial to green bean casserole...but with homemade mushroom gravy, not canned soup.

  • Mashed potatoes. I love my family's big dinners though because we always have a huge variety of vegetables. I could skip Turkey and stuffing but I love having a huge plate of different veggies.

  • Dressing & banana creme pie. :-)
  • Homemade rolls :) I'm on board with non-traditional too, though. We've done pot-lucks with friends the last few years, and I loved that (they weren't organized enough to coordinate who would bring what, I there was no telling what we'd have).

What are fried pizzas? This sounds amazing! I've never heard of this...I think I've been missing out.

Think calzones only deep fried instead of baked. They came from the region of Itally where I lived between the ages of 9 and 12. My brother spelled the name of them fritelli. We make them by rolling some bread dough into a circle (you decide size of circle but it's usually 1 per person in our house so smaller circles of dough) pile pizza type toppings in the center, fold dough over fillings and seal, then deep fry until dough is cooked. Let cool a moment and enjoy.

Tbones.......yum. Great idea for a special, nontraditional meal.

  • Stuffing stuffing stuffing and pumpkin pie. Though now I'd also be sad without cranberry crisp and shri khand which is an Indian yogurt-based dessert we added to the menu when dh and I got together and he wanted to contribute to our feast.

@starmile‌ I've made non-dairy mashed potatoes that came out pretty good - using Yukon gold potatoes which give a pretty creamy consistency on their own and then with coconut oil, rice milk, and some of the cooking liquid (boiled the potatoes already cut up) mashed in.
