Baby Names

Any Ideas?

We have a 2 year old named Crew Charles and I'm due with number 2 in May. Anyone have any suggestions? Here's what we like so far:

Girl
Dylan

Boy
Owen

I kind of like Dylan Rose for a girl. Is that too weird? I can't come up with any middle names for Owen. I'm totally open to suggestions of first and middle names.

Re: Any Ideas?

  • What about something like:
    Owen Gray
    Owen Rhys
    Owen Phinneas
    Owen Frederick
    Owen Alfred

    Some first name suggestions

    Lane
    Thad
    Chet
    Gideon
    Trenton
    Stefan
    Luca
    Phinneas

  • I like Owen Rhys! DH is now saying he isn't too sure about Owen. Ugh!

I agree that Dylan is different. We actually both like it though so it's hard to forget about it. Any suggestions for a different girl's name? I like names that are normal words but unique names.

  • I like Owen a lot.  I dislike Dylan for a girl.  Love Rose as a MN.
  • Can you give more of an idea of girls names you like? If you like Rhys for a boy maybe Reese for a girl (that name doesn't get a ton of love here but it's way better than Dylan)?
  • I like Iris and Olive. DH would veto those quick though I'm sure. What's the scoop on Peyton? Bad? I kind of like it for a boy or girl.

Girl names are really hard for me. I don't love super girly names. I come up with names I like and someone in DH's family already has that name. I really like Parker (boy or girl) but there's already a Parker.

I get the feeling you like masculine names for a girl, you won't get much positive feedback here for those suggestions if that's what you're looking for.

  • I'd avoid overtly masculine names for a girl and try for something more unisex. Or go for a clearly girl name but off the beaten path. Some ideas:

    Ariadne
    Bronwyn
    Beatrix
    Cassandra
    Calliope
    Danae
    Freya
    Gaia
    Ophelia
    Pauline
    Persephone
    Rhiannon
    Ursula

I feel like I'm channeling bromios now, LOL

I think you hit the nail on the head. I apparently do like masculine girl names. You are all so good with names and probably thinking I'm a loon with a kid named Crew (it did not go over well here in 2012 when I was pregnant with DS) and thinking about naming a girl Dylan. It's so hard to find a name that everyone likes.

  • I would suggest Gwen for you for a girl.  It seems very similar in style to Owen.  It's feminine without being frilly.
  • I like Dylan for a girl, but I am the vast minority here. It pairs nicely with a very feminine MN like Rose.

  • Dylan for a girl is not good. OP what is it you like about masculine names on girls? If you are looking for an uncommon, no-frills name you can find many girl names that match that criteria.

    How about:

    Hero
    Willow
    River
    Margot
    Elin
    Ingrid
    Astrid
    Juniper
    Maren
    Dawn
    Winter

  • Dylan for a girl is really bad. Give a daughter a girl's name, not a boy's name. She deserves to be given just as good a name as Owen is for a boy. Some first name options for both boys and girls:

    GIRLS:
    Audrey
    Ingrid
    Lucy
    McKenzie
    Morgan
    Poppy
    Rayna
    Rowena
    Shea

    BOYS:
    Alan
    Basil
    Dylan
    Ethan
    Guy
    Harold
    Holden
    Josiah
    Rhys

  • Owen is great. Dylan is not (for a girl).
Delilah. Leslie. Esme. Ivy. Isla. Jayme. Penelope (nn penny).
  • Your suggestions of Iris and Olive are one million time better than a girl named Dylan. Try them on for size with your DH.

Since it seems you might also like nature names, not just masculine, try that route, too.

If you must use Dylan, why not Rose Dylan?

    VOTE on my Name List

  • I love Owen and Dylan but I don't like Dylan on a girl. I know a girl Dylan and it does fit her. Her nickname is Dill.

  • Wowee! I hadn't realized Dylan was so horrible. I fell in love with it when I heard of the lady behind Dylan's Candy Bar. Oy.

I do like Delaney! I think I must live a very sheltered life. I've never heard of anyone with most of the names you all suggest. I think I'm a name failure.

  • Delaney Rose would be pretty.

    What about Harper Rose?
