Migraine from hell!

I don't normally post personal complaints on here but I'm at a loss with this one...I've had a migraine since 12 this afternoon and it's nearly 9 pm here now and still here! I took Tylenol and drank lots of water, and haven't been able to eat much because I'm now nausated from the pain. Any personal remedies anyone have for this? Or anyone suffering from the same thing?

Re: Migraine from hell!

  • I have always been a migrane sufferer, but they have gradually been coming on more and more often (about every other day now) since getting pregnant. I don't have any solid advice on how to get rid of them. I take a Tylenol, drink a bunch of water and go to sleep in the hopes that it's gone when I wake up.

Oh my, I'm so sorry that you have these all the time! I cannot imagine that! Thanks for the advice, hopefully as our pregnancy moves along things will get better!

  • My go-to process is to take Tylenol, chug a lot of water, have a little bit of caffeine, lay down without a pillow, put an ice pack under my neck and one on my forehead, and try to sleep it off.

    Good luck!
  • My sister has migraines all the time and in the past she has use strong medicine to get rid if them. Recently she found these natural oils that I thought were bogus but I use on a simple head ache and it worked. She said she hasn't had one for months and she used to get them every other week. The oil is called deep blue that she gets from a company called doterra.
  • I've had one for three days.  My doctor prescribed Tylenol with codeine for them which only minimally helps and then I make sure to take it with a little caffeine, force myself to eat on a somewhat regular schedule and then sleep, sleep and more sleep.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

    This Cluttered Life

  • I had a headache every day for a month with DS. my doctor prescribed some migraine medicine. I'm sorry I don't remember the name but you might want to call your doctor. The only downside was I couldn't take it at work because it made me a little fuzzy but I would take one at night and on the weekends.
  • Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'm going on day 2 now with thing stupid migraine. It's right across my forehead and also now in my neck. I will try that Vicks rub and I keep switching from warm to cold compress can't figure out which one is better. I called my ob and she told me if it doesn't subside by today then we will look into some meds. I have three other kids who need me and I wish I could sleep this thing off! Also I work this entire weekend 12 hr shifts! Yayyyy! Hopefully this Vicks helps! And I've been drinking tea and coke for some caffeine!
  • Epsom salt baths are worth a try as the magnesium is supposed to help...
  • I have always had them but not frequently until pregnancy. With all of my pregnancies they have been awful for the first 20 weeks or so.

Mine are one sided and usually behind my left eye reaching through my brain and into my ear. And I'm a stay at home mom with a 2.5 year old and an 11 month old. No sleeping it off for me!

The caffeine is a good suggestion, as is a salty snack. Oddly enough, I can often stomach salty French fries when I have one. But no sweets! Blegh! Lots and lots of water too. I take Tylenol if if can survive with just that. But about once every other week I have to resort to Tylenol with codeine. The catch is that these monsters feed on themselves, your pain, exhaustion, nausea, and blood pressure. So they don't go away until you get all that under control. So sometimes real drugs are necessary to stop the cycle. Those of us who say we have them every 2-3 days are actually just keeping the same one going on and on.

One suggestion that I haven't seen on this post yet is hot and cold pressure packs. My eyeball and head feel like they are going to explode. So I put a cold pack or a hot pack in a towel and press that to my head where it hurts. Both are helpful, so I alternate them.

Otherwise, see a doctor. You do not have to be in this level of pain.

  • I had one yesterday where the vision in my right eye was so blurry I couldn't use it to see out of. Then I wasn't able to read a simple email from my boss because my mind just wanted understanding the words. I still have it today and I'm in a lot of pain. Not fun. I got 11 hours of sleep last night but woke up a few different times complaining of the pain
