so C went to the ER yesterday with a fever of 104.2 and turned out to be an ear infection.
They gave us a perscription and gave him some tylonal and got his fever down to 102.

He's had a fever since Tuesday night and I've been giving him baby Advil since then for the fever. Well this morning his fever is at 103, I gave him more Advil and also his amoxicillin. That was about two hours ago. Now he just vomited all the medicine up. I'm worried bc I don't know if it was just bc the medicine that he threw up, or if he's getting worse and that's why he vomited

I'm waiting for the doctor to calls back but I'm getting worried about him. Do I just take him to the ER again?

Can you try putting him in a lukewarm bath? Keep him in only a diaper after the bath. This should help to get his temp down a bit while you're waiting for a call back.

I don't think you need to go to the ER right now.  I'm always nervous about ERs because I worry that the baby will be exposed to something more dangerous than what he already has.

Since he threw up the Advil, I'd give him some Tylenol. Advil and Tylenol are processed by the body differently (one through the kidneys and one through the liver), so you won't risk overdosing on the Advil, but you'll still be helping him bring down the fever.  Definitely get in touch with the pedi ASAP.

My opinion, with no medical training, is that I would imagine that if he took the medicine 2 hours before vomiting, at least some of it was absorbed.  Given that none of us can observe your baby, I would follow your instincts.  If something seems really off, then go to the ER.  I would judge based on how he is acting whether or not to just wait for a doctor callback.

You can also wet his head with washcloths while he's in his lukewarm bath. It cools their head off and helps bring their temp down. If that doesn't work, then I'd say screw waiting and just take him in. ((Hugs)) hope he's okay! Keep us updated.

Soap1  You can alternate between Tylenol and Advil. I hope he feels better ASAP.

Hope you got that call back from the dr. You can alternate but you still need to space them out at the right intervals. If you can't get seen today by your dr then I say the ER is where you need to be.

Thanks for all the advice ladies! I undressed him and gave him a pat down with a cool cloth and that seemed to help. I also put lotion on him and that seemed to help him relax too so that was good.

Finally got a call from the doctors. She said the dosage that was on the medicine was too much so that bothered me a lot. But now we have the correct dosage for the amoxicillin and she told me to alternate between baby tylonal and Advil for the fever. So the bf is on his way to wal mart right now to get some tylonal.

Whoa! How did they screw up the dosage? That would bother me too. I'm glad you got a call back from the pedi and that you now have a plan in place.

How is LO now? Is his fever down?

@breadpudding‌ I have no idea. The perscription says two teaspoons every twelve hours. I thought it was a lot but I figure they know more than I do. The correct dosage is 3/4teaspoon twice a day. So that's what we're doing now.

He's doing better. He got a little nap in(sleeping was a joke last night) so he's playing and laughing again. Fever is down to 101 so things are looking good! I just got so worried that the fever was so high for so long!

I hate feeling like me going back to work and him starting day care is the cause of all of this too. Last night I was two seconds away from quitting my job and just saying we'll figure it out. But then I took a breather and realized I was being a bit dramatic. Just a bit though lol

@narcissticbeaut‌ ((Hugs)) Whoever it was on F14 that said, "Never quit on your worst day" is a genius. It's so true, and when we look back with a clear mind, we are often glad that we stuck it out.

You aren't to blame for any of this, so knock it off with that crap. You're a wonderful, caring, loving mother and nothing can take that from you! :x

I'm glad C's fever is going down. Give him extra snuggles and let us know how he's doing later.

Seems like it's working now. As for quitting your job. We were just in that mind frame last week. It sucks feeling responsible for their illnesses. We're not but I know why you felt that way.
It's unfortunate that starting day care coincides with winter sick season. Hang in there till Spring.
That's what I keep telling myself.

@breadpudding thank you i appreciate that. and the only up side to this whole ordeal is all of the baby snuggles! he just wants to cuddle all day and Im so all about that. especially after missing him so much while at work.

@caer @cara5565 im glad to know the high fever isn't so uncommon with the ear infection. it really scared me that it'd last this long. 

@katybriggs right!? i can't believe it. i don't know if its the ER doctors fault or the pharmacist. but either way I'm glad i called the pedi and got it cleared up

@karlamo its so hard to feel whats best for the baby vs whats best for the family. do i pay for day care and spend less time with my child to have a little more money to help with the bills, or do we live on one income and hope its enough. but yes. I'm looking for that light at the end of the tunnel!
