Alva pockets wicking?

Hi ladies.  I only pop in here from time to time, always with a question.  I'm sorry to be rude like that, but I still don't feel like I know enough about CDing to be a valid contributor to others' questions.  Hopefully I'll get there one of these days!

So, this "drive-by" question of the day is about Alva pockets.  We've always used prefolds and covers, but I recently ventured out with some Alva OS pockets.  I'm using microfiber inserts I think?  Whatever came with them.   I have a couple of minky covers but the rest are breathable TPU per the website..  While I like their ease of use, I've been disappointed in how the covers seem to wick. I have read that the minky could wick, but it's happening with both styles. I'm wondering if I"m doing something wrong in their care?   I washed & dried 3 times prior to use per the instructions and they've been washed several times since then.  But even when double stuffing the inserts, the covers seem damp on the outside.  Recently after only 2 hours and being doublestuffed, the TPU cover wicked enough to make the onesie damp.  

So, did I not prep these right?   I wouldn't think it would be a detergent residue because it's been happening from the beginning?  Do I need to switch to a different type of insert?

I have had troubles with my newborn pockets. I haven't tried their other diapers, though. I want to, but I'm leery.

I haven't tried Alvas yet - I actually have 1 coming in the mail. But I have heard the quality can be hit or miss with the Alva brand. Ooh, I also read that it helps to prep diapers by putting the covers in the dryer for 30 min to "seal the TPU". I read that on the fb Alva fan page, so maybe that's the problem?

The only trouble I have with my alvas wicking is when they aren't stuffed all the way to the edges. It seems like it wicks around the elastic if the insert isn't touching. I had four with microfiber and two inserts weren't wide enough. Now I stuff with two bamboo alva inserts or prefolds and they work great

The inserts just plain suck.  Even doubled up.

I haven't had any issues with the actual pockets when stuffed with a flat or prefold.

I like their pockets. But never used MF inserts in them. I hear their MF sucks ...

During the day in a pocket I use mother ease bamboo and cotton (homemade) ones. If I have to use one for night (which is rare) I use mother ease bamboo and thristies hemp.
