Third tri weight loss?

So I hit the third tri and all of the sudden my weight gain slowed way down. I went from putting on an average of 1lb a week to a 1/2 lb, none and now I have lost a pound since my last appoint two weeks ago... My doctor says not to worry but of course I am!!
I have been experiencing third tri morning sickness and have been working a lot of overtime in the last few weeks. I'm worried I'm not eating enough. Has anyone else experienced weight loss? Or even loss of appetite and if so, how do combat it?
Tia ladies! Happy pregnancies!

Re: Third tri weight loss?

  • This morning, I pooped and lost 2 lbs from yesterday.  I am weighing myself obsessively at this point.  After this great pooping, I am down a lb from 4 weeks ago.  I know it is fine though, because I'm using https://www.thebabycorner.com/tools/pregnancy/calculators/weightcalculator.php to tell me my total is OK.  If your Doc is not concerned, I wouldn't be either.

  • If your doctor says don't worry, don't worry. I think you've already listed several reasons that could explain the weight loss (sickness, extra work hours, loss of appetite).

    dx:  Unexplained IF
TTC since May 2011, 1 year trying, and then 3 TI, 2 IUI = BFN
IVF #1 (May 2013):  Antagonist Protocol:
    24R, 18M, 15F w/ICSI; 5dt of 2 early blasts, no frosties = BFN
IVF #2 (August 2013):  Lupron Stop Protocol:
    28R, 23M, 15F w/ICSI; 5dt of 1 partially hatched blast, 7 frosties = BFP
    EDD 5/23/14, blighted ovum (6w6d), D&C (8w6d)
    FET #1 (April 2014):  transferred 2 5d blasts = BFP

  • I'm right there with you @almostamissus .  I haven't put on a single pound since I started the 3rd trimester.  My OB/GYN isn't concerned because my fundal growth is on par and little girl is always moving, but that doesn't make me feel any better.  I have resorted to drinking Carnation Instant Breakfast and those Special K meal replacement drinks with my morning and afternoon snacks to add extra calories, but still no change on the scale.  Hope your OT slows down some so you can rest and relax some!

  • If your doctor isn't worried, you're fine. I'm still under my pre-pregnancy starting weight (thanks HG!), but my baby is growing fine and the doctor isn't concerned at all.

  • With my second I don't think I gained anything in the third tri. I hit 20 pounds around 6 months and stayed there. No one was concerned and my son was fine.

This time I started heavier than I ended the second time. I gained 6 pounds by the end of August and haven't gained any more in the last 3 months. My doctor is happy with my weight gain and baby's size so I'm mostly not worried. I have trouble eating after about 4 because it makes me feel like my stomach is going to explode from being too full. If I do manage to eat more then I get terrible heartburn. I figure there's not really much more I can do. I eat mostly healthy when I can. But my doctor isn't worried.

As long as you don't think it's from dehydration you're probably fine. Check with your doctor.
  • Its important to remember everyone is different... for instance many women start eating much healthier while pregnant so sometimes they dont gain anything. I flucuate all the time - sometimes i eat good for weeks and dont gain much if anything other weeks I eat Chipotle every day and gain a ton. As long as baby is good and healthy dont worry about it :)

  • I had a stomach bug and was diagnosed with gd right as 3rd tri hit. I lost a little weight from both and haven't gained any back. I'm measuring right on track, and my last growth ultrasound put baby in the 91% percentile. My doctor hasn't mentioned anything about my weight.

When I was pregnant with DS I would go a couple weeks without gaining anything, and then gain 2-3 lbs in a week. My doctor was never concerned. I gained a total of 20 lbs with him (10 lbs lost in first tri and gained back, plus an additional 10), and he was an 8 lb baby :)

I wouldn't worry if your doctor says you're fine!

It's totally fine - I saw my OB yesterday and had lost three lbs since my last visit. The nurse tut tutted me but the Dr. said it was just fine. I had a growth scan earlier in the month and the baby is in the 50th percentile.

It's hard not to worry, but as long as the Dr. isn't concerned there is no need for you to be.

  • I lost 3lbs at my last appointment and Dr asked me about it and seemed a little concerned, but I'm still up 22. I think she just wanted to make sure I wasn't try to loose. I go back today and I'm sure I've put it back on, but I'm with a lot of you were I am not tempted to eat a big dinner due to heart burn.

Very similar.  I'll go a week or two (or more) without any weight gain, then get what I call a growth spurt and put on 2/3 lbs in a couple days.

As long as the doctor hasn't said anything, assume you're fine.  And maybe go ahead and have that extra donut...

I was down at my last appointment (first time ever) and I had been gaining like 7-9 lbs between monthly appointments so it was super odd! But I'm not complaining because I really didn't want to gain 55lbs like last time!
