Huggies or Pampers Swaddlers

my husband and I are going to start stockpiling diapers for the baby's arrival in May. What would you recommend OR what have you chosen and why?

PS... Cloth diapering is not an option.

Thanks!

Re: Huggies or Pampers Swaddlers

  • I like huggies because they fit tighter around the legs, but I've heard a lot of babies having allergic reactions to them. So idk if I'd start stalk piling till you know your babies skin and how they react to certain diapers. Pampers are good too, they just don't have as good of a fit

I don't know if I would stock pile. Until you know what works for your baby you could be exchanging a lot of diapers and that would be a pain.

We used pampers swaddlers. My son reacted to huggies and target brand. You might want to see what works for your baby first.

  • I hated Huggies with both my boy and my girl. Pampers Swaddlers FTW.

  • We use pamper swaddlers. Recently we've also been using the target brand (during the day only). Huggies always leaked for us but I know people who like them.

  • We have been Pampers fans. We never had a problem so we stayed with it. We did try Luvs once and I'm not sure if it was a weird pack or what but it sounded like tissue paper being crinkled when DD moved. Hah!

  • Huggies give my daughter a terrible rash whenever she is put in one (daycare), we are a pampers family for that reason. A couple random thoughts, my friends with boys have all sworn that they have less leaks with Huggies vs pampers (I can't speak to this because I don't have a boy). Another thought is sams club carries pampers, Costco Huggies, so if one is closer than the other you may want to go with them :)

  • Love Pampers swaddled....but I agree don't stock up until you know which brand you like best...same goes for bottles...I have a whole set of playtex nursers my DD wouldn't touch....and little miss prepared ftm had them all out of the package and washed so nothing could be returned! You live and learn so much with baby 1!
  • This content has been removed.
  • I'm looking at all brands that are more natural.. There are 4 brands 7th generation, Huggies natural, g diapers and the last one is called earth I believe. They might not be 100% natural but I really would like to try to use these.
  • I've heard you shouldn't buy many bottles or diapers until you know what works for your LO. Maybe just put money in a bank account instead?
  • We use cloth but when DS was first born we used pampers swaddlers sensitive. DS leaked out of every single Huggies dipe we put on him.
  • Pampers were great when my son was a newborn. As we bought them I prefer Luvs. Don't like huggies.
  • As a newborn we used Pampers Swaddlers and then around 3 months DS started reacting to both pampers and Huggies so we switched to Honest Company. We do the monthly bundle with wipes.

I will say that every baby will fit in diapers differently. If we were to do a more mainstream brand then DS would fit best in Huggies, Pampers don't get tight enough around his skinny waist and legs!

  • I love pampers.  But, I agree, don't go crazy stockpiling yet.  There was a point with my second daughter that she started leaking out of the pampers and we had to switch to huggies for awhile.

  • I have always used target brand. They have a blue line in the newborn size as well. I also even use there overnights now. I buy cases bc I have cartwheel app plus a target cc. Often times they run a sale ( buy 2 cases, get $10 gc) I shop there a lot so it's worth it. If I didn't use target I would use pampers. My DD had bad rashes from huggies
  • Both worked pretty well for me, much better in the newborn size than store brand diapers.  My preference is pampers swaddlers, but I buy either on a good sale.  If I can get a pack of either for under $4 I snatch them up.
  • Granted my opinions are from 6 years ago lol but we used Pampers Swaddlers at first and then switched over to Luvs when DS was 6 months old maybe because they were cheaper. They worked just fine for us.

I was considering starting to stock up, but then had the thought that I don't know what the baby's skin will or will not like and figured I should just hold off for now.
  • Pampers swaddlers for sure and then around size 4 we switched to Target brand - I found them to work better than name brand diapers and with cartwheel & target coupons you can score a good deal! I want to try cloth diapering with this baby though.
  • I would stock pile too much because your baby may have a sensitivity and get rashes from a certain brand. We did pampers until we discovered target brand. Target is a always cheaper and they work great
  • I'll echo what everyone else is saying about no stock piling. We loved Huggies and used them for the first 2 months before switch to cloth part time. Now it's cloth or luvs ( or huggies if I get a great coupon).
  • @annerz22‌ & @ramy3‌ what is your experience with honest co.? From what I understand they are about as natural as you can get so that would make them less likely to give baby a reaction? How do you feel about the absorbency? Pros and cons?

I Thought about switching to these with my daughter, but never did. Thinking I may buy a pack to try with this baby. I like the idea of the subscription. I live a little ways away from town so diapers to your door is appealing, but I could also do Amazon.
  • Pampers! Or target brand! We did not like Huggies or Luvs. (But, it all depends on your baby!) our baby was very petite.
  • We used pampers swaddlers sensitive and then at size 5 pampers swaddlers, dd has very sensitive skin ang got a rash from pampers baby dry and huggies. I have used diapers.com to order.

  • I like pampers swaddlers the first few weeks then luvs. They're much cheaper and light weight.
  • I used pampers swaddlers for several months. I tried just about every brand during the first year and always came back to pampers. Then in the potty training days I loved target brand over anything else. I picked up a pack of 7th generation and the we're honestly the best for him. Loved the way they fit and overnight. I would have stayed with them but poof! he was finished with the "baby boy" stuff! So for this one I might try 7th generation right out of the gate. Also just wanted to add, DS was 8 lbs even so not tiny but not huge and we went straight to 1s in the hospital. Nbs were way too tight. My crafty DH cut out a moon shape on all the swaddlers to protect the belly button and DS was a happy baby!
  • @happyfarmwife10‌ we really like the Honest diapers. DS has never been one to leak out of his diapers so for us the absorbency has been great. In the start I didn't love the fit but they re-designed the fit of the diaper and they are much better. A friend of mine who did have issues overnight, since they aren't as absorbent as a Huggies snug and dry overnight, would put her son in one size up for night time. The wipes are not my favorite, but they get the job done and are super gentle (gentle enough I use them on DS face and hands). My main issue is they aren't as thick as some other brands so I tend to need a few extra.

With almost everything I've tried from the company I've been very pleased with I would say 90% of the products.

Lots of Targets and BBB carry the diapers and wipes now in small packages. You can always check there first to see how you like them.

  • I'd wait on stockpiling. We ended up in cloth, but figured out that DS's body type did well with pampers. Huggies had leaks out of every possible spot. It is the opposite for others. You won't know until you are there. I've even heard of siblings switching it up. What works for one baby may not work for your next.

  • Pampers hands down. This is my 4th and I'm confident enough in pampers to stock pile. :)
  • Between the two, definitely Pampers Swaddlers. I don't think there's any problem stock piling those. We just tried Huggies for the first time on vacation because it was the only brand they had. They totally sucked. I ripped the tab off a couple times while fastening, rendering the diaper useless. Cheap POS. ;)

  • Stock pile away! Only stock pile size 3. They spend about 6 months in size 3.

My son was perfect in pampers sensitive snugglers until he converted to huggies little movers once he got mobile. No reaction to the pampers and hardly ever a single leak or blow out.

My daughter had a mild inflammation rash from the snugglers sensitive for the first 3 months. I tried her on huggies pure and natural and they are divine! Soft, absorbant, gentle, and non stinky. I will always use these for newborns now. My daughter stayed in huggies because they fit her better. They seem to be a good fit for thinner babies. Pampers work well for the snuggly chunky monkeys!

    Stockpile secrets.
Buy 2 cases times the diaper size.
    1 case newborns
    2 cases of size 1
    3-4 cases of size 2
And as many 3s as you want. Keep reciepts.

Buy them at target or walmart and tape the reciept for each box to the box itself. You can exchange them if they don't work for lo or lo grows out of them.

Check babycheapskate.com every Sunday. She lists the biggest diaper deals of the week from each store, available coupons, and what the goal price to pay is for each type if diaper. She is the bomb!

Huggies pure and natural are cheapest from amazon warehouse, especially in the small sizes. People return unopened boxes because their kids outgrew them, and amazon sells them to you at a huge discount.

Lastly, once lo is 3-4 months old, you can start using overnight diapers. Huggies fit better and are way more absorbant, but they smell a little funny. I don't care about the smell since they prevent leaks so well. Pampers don't smell, but don't absorb as well.

Sign up with both huggies and pampers online and they send you coupons regularly. Pampers has a better rewards program, but don't make your decision based on that.

    Good luck!
  • Huggies gave my daughter bad rashes (seems to be a trend) so we used pampers swadlers. With baby #2 we will use pampers for a couple weeks and then I am going to attempt cloth...say a prayer for me lol.
  • We are a pampers family.

My last child had horrible reactions to Huggies. He is super sensitive. We used swaddlers sensitives. A bit more pricey but better than dealing with chapped skin from reactions.

I typically use swaddlers from nb to size 3, then will switch to baby dry or cruisers for 4-5.

I do want to mention - don't buy any nb dipes. If you deliver in a hospital you can take home everything - ask for extra dipes. We only went through nb dipes for 10 days with both boys before we went into size 1.

I got some Huggies as a shower gift and didn't like them as well. I'd be careful about stockpiling too much until you find a brand that you like that works for your little one (or you might have tons of diapers you don't like).

Huggies and tried to use them but they leaked. Our son slept a lot on his side because he was breastfeed. We now use target and love them.
