My water ended up being between the colours for 250-425. So I'm guessing a little over 300 ppm. Does anyone have a more specific way of determining how hard it is, other than eyeballing a test-strip?
I have a test kit where you add drops of a reagent to a specific amount of water. Then when the solution changes color, you multiply the number of drops by 20 and that is your hardness.

Where would you get that test? Not that it matters more than for curiosity.
Here's the Amazon UK page for what I got. I got this because I wanted to be able to test multiple samples around my house (like my Brita filter), and I liked this type of test for accuracy. I'm sure you can find something like it in North America.
