Nah, SAK. You only have to clean it when you move. And then you can just pile things into boxes, label them "hall closet," put them in the garage and never unpack them. Or so I've heard...
Something I keep meaning to try is what Fly Lady calls putting out hot spots. You pick an area, like the pantry closet, piled up chair, island, desk, etc. Set a timer for 15 minutes and clean up that spot. Just do what you can in that time. Supposedly if you do it often enough it gets cleaned up and stays neater.
Why wouldn't you have a random basket of laundry in your walk-in pantry?
This is more of a catch-all closet SAK. It could be SO functional once you organize it.
That is not said in a "you should do this" voice. If I had an extra closet it would look like this. Well or if i had a different spouse.
I know. And about three months ago before F was born it was totally organized. But as people come over and I have crap out I just throw everything in it and then never clean it back out. It's a sad state of affairs at this point.
If I ever design my own house I'm going to have to remember to make a closet just for this.
I do not recommend it. Because eventually you have to clean it up.And if you're really lucky, before you get around to cleaning it up you'll get involved in a conversation about said space with a bunch of Internet strangers, and you'll have to post a picture of the disaster that it is for the world to see.
This is my basement. We've been stock piling things down there that should be recycled, tossed or sold. It's pretty depressing.
yea, but at least it would keep all that stuff out of the living room or our bedroom (which is where it gets tossed when someone comes over). Seriously one chair in our living room is a designated clean laundry/random diaper insert chair. No one has sat there in ages.
Sac I love that pantry! It kind of reminds me of my laundry room. I throw things in there and just shut the door when people are coming over. I've had a punch bowl and random toys sitting on my dryer for weeks. It's like an obstacle course to get to my washer and dryer.
Tee hee to Sac. And I read that as sitting IN your dryer. I was pretty impressed.
I also have spices and hot sauce stashed in three other places in my kitchen. I really need that to be a part of this pantry challenge as well. I might need two weeks, though.
Why is your coconut water in there so haphazard and crooked like that @stoneycakes? That would save you a lot of space and me a lot of OCD issues if you would just straighten them up.

I haven't trully cleaned this thing out in YEARS. Judge away! I know it's bad, and you must all think we eat compleat crap in a daily basis. Honestly we mostly eat out of the fridge and it gets compleatly cleaned out at least every two months.
Stringy, I swear, we are molding into the same person more and more every day. We also only have four tiny cabinets for food. And the spice/baking cabinet above our stove. Oh, and I do have a huge baking drawer in the island I redid. The drawer is so heavy it's hard to open. Lol
Mh organizes the shelves pretty regularly. Me, not so much. Which is so surprising because I love cleaning.
Containers will keep the cereal fresher longer and are easier to pour. I have two Sterilite ones that I like. Be sure to measure and see what fits your cabinets.
You guyzzzz! This chaos control has me on a cleaning rampage. Seriously. I scrubbed my bathroom last night...for two hours! Put up new curtain and liner. And today I cleaned and reorganized M's room (this kid's stuff is in a constant ebb and flow: clothes that are too small and need to be stored-next size clothes ready for dresser-outdated toys. Phew!!
It all looks so good. And I did not take pictures because....oh my god it was bad. Ya know how I know? I had to scrub my tub for an hour. My fingertips are cracked! Here's my unmatching bath mat and curtain though
I just realized I have a lot of junk in my cabinets.
As everyone can see, I have a very small space for storage.
I need some tips for storing cereal. None of my cabinets are tall enough to fit the boxes. So it ends up on my counter, which I hate.
I'm thinking I should get some clips, take them out of the boxes and store them that way? Does anyone do this? Tips?
You can get containers for cereal, or use any container in various sizes, plastic/tupperware type stuff.
Does it stay fresher longer? And does anyone recommend some good ones that will last?
Walmart has some of these containers.
Cereal only lasts like a day in this house, so I cant speak to the length of freshness
Cheerios are my main issue. I buy the big boxes of both regular and honey nut so that the kids have something to snack on if I'm trying to get dinner ready.
My main issue is that my husband sees a closed box of cereal as good enough. Then the bag sits open in the box and it goes stale.

On this episode of My Messy House...
MK we only eat sweet potatoes, and we go through them super quickly. They don't last more than a week in our house.

One of the cabinets is double sided. I love this feature.
