Trouble TTC

Normal AMH levels?

I recently had my first appointment with an RE (yay!) and he ran all the basic tests. I had a preliminary diagnosis of PCOS by my OB. I haven't gotten all the results back yet but got the AMH results emailed to me. It was 4.92 ng/ml which was listed as normal by the lab but I read hugely varying opinions of what was considered as high, anywhere from over 3.0 to over 6.8 as being the mark for high. Obviously my RE will have something to say about it, but I'm being impatient! Anyone have a better idea what is considered normal? Thank you!

Re: Normal AMH levels?

  • (lurking from TTC) This site https://www.advancedfertility.com/amh-fertility-test.htm says normal is 1.5-4.0 ng/ml. Mine is around 8.3 (PCOs). You said you were waiting for results....does that include blood work and a sonogram? Be patient...your RE will know what to do. GL!

  • I have pcos and my AMH was slightly over 4 as well. My RE considered it to be a little high but not terrible.

7th Round of Fertility treatment (Femara + Ovidrel + IUI) 12/14 = BFP. DS born Sept.15
Natural BFP Feb 2017. DD born Oct. 2017
Natural BFP Aug. 2019, EDD April 2020

  • My RE likes to see an AMH around 2, with 4 being on the high end for my age (28). Mine was 14.something so she's thinking I have TONS of eggs and has planned my treatment accordingly with the goal of only one baby (if/when treatment works). This means low dose of Letrozole and close monitoring.

Your other levels will tell your RE the whole story so don't get caught up in one number. 4.92 is not crazily high so I'm sure they've seen it before. I know it's hard to wait for answers but it is also impossible to get a good picture of the issue with one number.

    Me: 28  MH:35

June 2014 - Dx w/ significant PCOS and referred to RE.

July/August 2014 - Testing complete: Testosterone & AMH very high, FSH slightly high, Vitamin D low, tubes and lining all lovely. DH SA: A+

    Cycle 1 (Nov 2014): 2.5 mg Letrozole/Ovidrel/TI = BFN

    Cycle 2 (Dec 2014): 5 mg Letrozole/Ovidrel/TI - BFN

  • My level was a 5.8 and my RE didn't seem concerned at all. I have no signs of PCOS, so he just took it to mean I have a lot of eggs.

  • Thanks for the quick answers, ladies! I'm almost 35. We've had the whole battery of tests done including HSG (normal), SA, genetic screening, and tons of blood work. So far, the only thing not normal was my U/S (classic looking ovary for PCOS) and low vitamin D but we're still waiting on about half the tests to come back including SA, so hopefully they'll all be back by the end of the week. I just hate waiting! :)
