BFP with spotting and FF chart does not make sense (Update: possible ectopic-waiting for answers)

I always imagined that when I got my first BFP I would be nothing but excited. However, I am scared because I didn't think I even ovulated this cycle yet. According to Fertility Friend I am on cycle day 13. I take my BBT every day and I just started using OPKs a few days ago. Today I got my 4th day of strong positive OPKs (the test line is darker than the control line). It's also my second day of spotting which I have never had mid-cycle before. I thought it was ovulation bleeding, but now I know that's not possible. I am spotting enough to need a pantyliner, but not enough to need a pad and the blood is brown. Out of curiosity, I googled '4 days of positive OPKs' and several results said it could possibly be a sign of early pregnancy. I took a test when I came home at around 8:30 pm tonight just to get myself to stop wondering. I expected a BFN. I was shocked to get a BFP on a dollar tree test with a pretty dark line. My DH told me to take a FRER and I got another BFP with a fainter line.

I called the on call doctor who said to just wait and see where I was in a week and there's nothing I can do in the meantime. I am in desperate need of a second opinion.

  • Yes, your chart makes it really confusing.  The only thing I can think is this, is it possible what you thought was your period was actually pregnancy related bleeding?

Your doctor is correct, there's really nothing to do now but wait, I know it stinks.  I had spotting with my first two, but it all worked out fine, so it doesn't always mean the worst.

  • Is there a way to link last month's chart?

Thank you for the comforting words. @sschwege‌. Let me know if the link above works.

The bleeding that I thought was my 'period' had pretty heavy bleeding though. Enough to soak through a super tampon

I also just took a clear blue digital and it said 2-3 weeks pregnant.
  • If you look back at your last month's chart and count forward from when you ovulated as if your period did not start, that puts you at 22 DPO which would make you 5w pregnant.  Consistent with what the test indicates, since it is calculating from conception you add 2 weeks.  So the test says 2-3 weeks, which really means 4-5w pregnant.

I decided to go to the ER since the bleeding and off and on cramping had me really worried now that I know I am pregnant. They are going to do a blood test and ultrasound.

I know you are worried, and I feel for you with the unknown. BUT there was no reason to go to the ER. The ER is for true emergencies, and there is not much that they can do for you. You really need to be patient and work with your doctor. There is no reason that you couldn't have 1) called your doctor's after office hours or 2) waited until morning, call and see what they had to say. Wishing the best for you.
She is going through a lot right now and understandably scared.  I don't think now is the time to discuss the appropriateness of her ER visit.

OP: My SIL is a pediatrician and used to work in a hospital.  She once had a girl come to the ER for a follow up to her ring worm!  The ER staff is used to seeing varying degrees of emergencies and non-emergencies, so don't feel bad!

No one is saying her fears aren't valid, just that she needs to realize the time and place for the ER versus her nurse line.

And just because others go to the ER for non-emergencies doesn't make it right. If every pregnant woman went to the ER for cramping and/or light bleeding I can't imagine what the wait time would be for true emergencies.

OP I hope everything works out for you. GL!
I just don't think now is the time or place to explain why she should or shouldn't be there.  But I'm not going to say anymore about it, this is just my opinion.

And I wasn't saying it was right, just that the doctors are used to seeing it.
