Let's talk about gas

at my baby shower I was given some gas drops. I was given the impression that this is must have product. So how do I know when LO needs them?

He is breastfed. He rarely burps when I try to burp him. He farts fairly often. He does get fussy multiple times a day and I am clueless as to why.
