So google has about a thousand answers and the search function for TB still isn't working for me. Please forgive me if this is constantly discussed.
Just got my daughter home from the pediatrician. They diagnosed her with a yeast infection diaper rash caused by the antibiotics one of the other docs prescribed her on Friday (which she didn't even need according to her normal doc. But that's beside the point..) I have her in disposables now and am trying to figure out how to treat her diapers.
We use GMD flats and workhorses with a bamboo insert overnight and Thirsties aplix covers. We also use single layer flannel wipes. I also just bought a used Sunbaby and a used BG to try out, can I throw them in with all of this? Or do you clean used diapers differently?
We have a front loading HE washer and dryer and use Tide free and clear powder. We also add a cap of Calgon to diaper loads because we have extremely hard water. We have the option for a hot wash but it's hot/cold, not hot all the way through. However my parents live down the road and she has an HE that has a full hot wash plus an extra sanitize option if that would be better.
What would you recommend in this situation?
Re: Yeast Questions
Wash all the diapers together, even the new "used" ones.
Do a normal wash cycle if there are dirty diapers - meaning rinse then wash cycle. Then do another wash cycle with 1/4 cup bleach, but no detergent. Do a few more rinses till you can't smell bleach.
Also be aware that sources indicate that free and clear detergent, even powder, may cause buildup on diapers. Just FYI.
