I had my ultrasound today and I have potentially 5 mature follicles. I have three that are 17-19 mm and two that are 14-15 mm. They want me to trigger tomorrow and go ahead with the IUI. Since I have had so many failed ones with two follicles I guess the extra ones can't hurt. The RE did mention risk of multiples but said since I am on round 4 he would do it anyway. But of course then I start googling and see that some people are told they can't do IUI with so many follicles. So now I am worrying a bit about high order multiples but the chances of that are really slim- right? Any opinions on this?

Yea, 5 is kind of scary. I did trigger with 6 (I think 5 or 6? I can't remember) but that was because only 3 were on my good side *back when I thought I still had a good side* (very funny universe) , the others were on the left and that is totally blocked, so I felt ok. Idk if I would be able to comfortably do this. I think 3 would be the max I am comfortable with. I agree with kiki, it's about what you feel comfortable with.

Hmmm that would make me nervous! But I triggered with 4 and got nothing. But then I've had 1 or 2 and had CPs so I dunno.

Hmmm. Is your RE is willing to proceed because he feels confident that higher-order multiples are not a realistic possibility based on your individual age, bloodwork, etc, or just because this is your 4th try?
Due to my crappy egg quality, my RE actually plans to transfer 4 embryos during IVF, and I triggered for IUI twice with four follicles (and got one early miscarriage for my trouble). Given those facts, I suspect she might have proceeded to do IUI with 5 follicles, too.
If I were you, I might ask him a bit more about the logic behind his decision and about how likely (again, based on egg quality) he thinks multiples would be for you, personally. After that, I agree with everybody else: whatever you're comfortable with.
Good luck!

Thanks for all of your thoughts. It helps to hear other opinions just to help us think about all the possible outcomes! DH and I talked a lot about this and the risk of multiples and we have decided to go ahead with this cycle. We realized that one of these follicles is probably still the cyst that has been sitting on my ovary for the past few cycles- so we are likely at 4 follicles. And the RE did also mention my age as a factor that he was comfortable going forward. So we are going for it and we will see what happens.

I was going to ask your age. Some follicles could be empty. Also, are you OK with selective reduction (you don't have to tell me... just some thoughts for you).
