TTC after 35

Been reading for awhile, ready to introduce

My BF and I have recently begun TTC. I am so afraid I've waited too long to try for the first time. Just need any support/advice I can get here. I'm 38 and my BF is 24. (Lol. I know - I don't need relationship advice. It's a big age gap but it's been working for 2 years.) Anyway, I'm 9 days past O now and have been testing because I'm so hopeful, but they're negative. I really pray I won't have issues because there's no way we'll be able to afford any fertility treatment. How do you all keep your mind from obsessing about it? And have any of you found success with switching to fertility diets or herbal treatments? Thanks in advance. Best wishes to everyone.

Re: Been reading for awhile, ready to introduce

  • 9 DPO is way early to test. I'd wait a few more days at least and try testing again. Are you temping/charting or doing OPKs to know that you actually Ovulated?

I've got no advice on how to not obsess because I'm fully in the obsession camp this week.

    Good luck!
  • Welcome.  Good luck in your journey.  I wasn't going to give you relationship advice -- was just going to say - You go girl! :)

It's tough not to get obsessive about it and I'm guessing everyone on here is obsessed at one time or another.

Are you charting/temping/OPK'ing since you know when you ovulated?  If not, you could be off by a day or two.

No experience with herbs or diets, but I'm doing acupuncture this cycle.  I'll let you know how it goes, but I'm also taking Femara.  The acupuncture relaxes me though, so that helps.

Good luck to you.  It's a crazy journey and can easily become an obsession.  My advice - find a hobby.  :)

  • Thanks yall! I use this My Days app to track my cycles & have for about 2 years, so I know I'm pretty regular (27 days). This seems like way TMI for strangers, but my CM does exactly what I read it's supposed to throughout the cycle with that eggwhite for 2 days, so I assumed that's about when O happened. We had plenty of sex that weekend. Lol. Sad thing is, soon as it was over I completely quit caring about sex & started tracking all my silly symptoms. How long do other people wait before talking with a doctor? I hate doctors/insurance/waiting rooms, etc...
  • What cycle day are you? Have you been trying long?
  • just wanted to say hi there and welcome :) Like others said, 9 days is generally too early to tell, and it can seriously drive a person batty.

  • Welcome~!  I second the idea of tracking your bbt to confirm ovulation.  Cycle lengths and tracking cm fertility does not confirm ovulation.  Best wishes!
  • Welcome! You've gotten good advice from PPs. The book, "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" is a really great resource, as is Fertility Friend for tracking your temp, CM, and OPKs. I've found it to be the most accurate and reliable app for determining your FW and O day. I also got a negative test at 9DPO. I'm now 13DPO and still testing negative. I'm kicking myself for wasting so many HPTs. If you can, try to hold out for a few days before testing again. I'm attaching this screenshot from another post to give an idea of the accuracy of HPTs by DPO.
Finally, good luck. TTC, and the TWW in particular, are maddening! Try to keep yourself distracted!
  • Welcome to the board!

PP's have great advice as always. I am also curious as to how long you have been trying.
I am not sure how to say this without getting a "solicitation" warning so I guess I just say that I am not longer active on THIS site.

  • If you haven't gotten pregnant in 6 months is when people of our age typically get tested. Oftentimes, insurance covers testing, even if no other treatment. Other than that, I'd follow the sage advice of these other ladies and just keep going for it.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks everyone. It helps to not feel like I'm alone. Like I said, my BF is young & he doesn't worry about anything much. I stress constantly. ... Was awake several times last night because my boobs are sore. Maybe that's a sign. I'm tired of myself waking up every morning trying to diagnose symptoms, tho. Exhausting.
  • Welcome and good luck.
  • Welcome! Can't add much to what others have said but I wish you luck!
