I guess I over-did it

I had an icky day. After shopping all day yesterday, then cleaning and putting up the tree today. I felt all shaky and my heart was racing. I carried in the tubs of Christmas stuff from the garage I could NOT catch my breath. Eventually, I just had to sit down and chill. I still felt not right so I started worrying about my blood pressure...or my blood sugar.

I called my aunt and she basically tells me its all in my head because of all I've been through and I was stressing. Maybe I was stressed but it was not all in my head.

Then my husband tells me has to work all weekend which ruins plans we had with my family for Thanksgiving. So I had my first good pregnant cry! But I have planted myself on the couch with a big glass of water and I feel better now.

It just sucks because I'm only 5 weeks. You would think I could still do what I have always done. My little speck and all my hormones have other thoughts though. I just gotta listen to what my body says. I shall rest tomorrow and maybe get a home BP monitor for peace of mind.

I was also surprised how soon I noticed became short of breath during pregnancy. It's challenging to adapt, but try to listen to your body.
Relaxing and drinking some water is a great start. No need to apologize for your post first tri was exhausting!

Your body is changing so fast right now, even though you can't see it rest up, don't over exert yourself. Generally, you really do feel better in the second tri after the placenta is formed.

I was surprised by it too! Me and dh would go for walks and after like 1 to 2 blocks, I'd have to stop to rest and catch my breathe! So definitely listen to your body and even though, you might not want to (I know I didn't) try to take it easy and stay hydrated!

I started shortness of breath pretty quickly as well. I thought, why do I feel like this already, and what will I feel like later in pregnancy?! It's crazy how quickly your body changes when pregnant, and every person is different! Try not to do too much, especially early on...

I too had shortness of breath before I got my BFP...   I don't remember having that with DD... but every pregnancy is different!

Dude, you overdid it when you started decorating for Christmas on 17 November!  I have a strict no Christmas decorating rule until after Thanksgiving - and I mean Thanksgiving in the U.S. Don't think I'm giving a pass to Canadians to rush the holiday season, just because they observe T-day earlier than we do.  J/K.... sorta

Well intentioned ribbings aside - I'm glad to read I'm not the only one who has felt short of breath.  I'm 17w now, but I've been feeling it periodically for weeks.  I thought it was because I'd quit my exercise routine almost cold turkey, and my body was mad at me.  Good to know its not an unusual symptom, or a sign of anything bad, necessarily.

@curve31 - Listen to your body!  It's tough in the early stages - we don't quite feel pregnant yet, so it can be easy to forget and overdo.  

BTW - I'll be cursing you on Christmas Eve, when my procrastinating self is still wrapping presents, and you're probably relaxing by a fire.

You'll probably find that this ebbs and flows over time. It definitely did for me in the first tri. But then the real fatigue hit and I didn't get up unless I had to until after sixteen weeks. And I still get winded much more quickly than I used to. Be careful! Trying to do what you used to do could result in faintness or falls.

First trimester fatigue is no joke. And blood sugars can go wonky right away - learn to keep some healthy quick snacks with you at all times, like the dried fruit and nut bars that have been my savior.

Hang in there! I actually found the first few weeks the hardest so far.

Definitely! That was one of the first things I noticed pretty early on. Ok most of the time but going up the stairs would wind me. Then it got better, and after 20-ish weeks it's back. And despite not being super big, I can't lay flat even for a little while without feeling short of breath. Don't feel bad...although I second @AMShark‌'s sentiment! No Christmas in my house until Black Friday! :-)

Thank you ladies for your words. You make me feel like I'm not just being a big baby.

And I usually don't put up the tree this early but its been cold and snowy. They mood struck me so I did it!

Getting the Christmas tree up and decorations set out is a lot of work even when you're not pregnant!!! Take it easy, have some cocoa, and admire your handiwork!!

I feel like everyone is different, but just listen to your body.  You're baking a human, that's hard work!
