Success after IF

Success with SET

Hi there!  My SO and I were lucky enough to have success after our first IVF cycle in October.  We elected a SET - the hardest decision I think that I ever had to make. I was so afraid that we had made the wrong choice but after having a BFP, knew it was in fact the best choice! My husband works out of state and is only home every few weeks and I do not think that I could have taken care of twins on my own.  Any other SET success out there?  It seems like this is a trend the Docs are really pushing right now.

Re: Success with SET

  • We just did a FET with one and it worked! The goal for most doctors is one healthy baby so if you have really good embryos, they are likely to push for just one.

The cycle that led to my son, we transferred two but one of them was not great at all.

    Congratulations with your cycle!

  • My daughter is the result of a SET.  I know what you mean about that being a hard decision - i second guessed myself A LOT during that 2WW.

I'm currently in my 2WW HELL from a single FET we did on Friday. FX my family will be complete from two S(FET)s...

My dr really pushes this on patients under 35 who are healthy. I am grateful for this. I could have never handled taking care of twins and I would have been a nervous wreck on carrying them.

  • I am pregnant from a FET of one embryo.  With my IVF we transferred two and I got pregnant with a singleton.  I think SETs are a great option given the increased risks of carrying multiples, however, I dislike the idea of women not being able to have a choice which is the case in certain countries and with certain insurance plans.

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • Yep - just found out I'm pregnant after my single transfer 8 days ago.  My doctor was very insistent on only transferring one (although it was ultimately our decision).  I had many moments of regret afterwards but now that we are pregnant I do feel better about it.  :)

  • Congrats to all of you!  It is a very interesting debate- especially the news I have seen recently about some countries only allowing one transfer.  It should always be the parents choice! Our Dr. was very insistent that we only transfer one but made sure that we knew ultimately it was our decision.  We are in good health, both under 35 and so I know alot of those factors played in to that decision.  Good luck with healthy pregnancies to everyone!
