Cloth Diapering

wetness sensitivity rash help

Hey cloth diaper gods, I have a question for you. DD is 10 weeks old. We have been using mostly prefolds. She hadn't had any rashes so I hadn't been adding the microfleece liner. This week she got a rash all over. It is bumpy but also like chapped skin (its scaly and rough). So I added some microfleece liners and am trying to keep her in pockets more. We also are doing diaper free time and at night doing disposables with desitin. But it doesn't seem to be healing. I've tried lots of creams but nothing clears it up although it does look better, less red. She's having surgery this week and starts dc next weeks so I would love to get it taken care of this week. I have several creams: cj's cj's plus, Grandma Els, coconut oil, Earth mama baby cream. Any advice above what I am already doing? Which cream do you think would help with the chappy-ness the most? Thanks so much ladies.

  • Try mixing a little tea tree oil in some coconut oil. Then apply liberally at every change. You may also try changing more often to make sure she is as dry as possible.

  • So using desitin at night with sposies isn't clearing it up at all?  Like no improvement?  Maybe it's yeast?  Is it spreading at all?

If it's not yeast, filling up the sink with warm water and adding enough baking soda to make it cloudy and then soaking baby's butt for 5 ish minutes is my go to.  I usually do that at night.  Follow up with some diaper free time.  Then lather him up with a good cream (I like EMAB or coconut oil with TTO.) and put him to bed in good breathable fitted with wool and a fleece liner.

  • @freezorburn-You might be onto something. I had been using pampers but then used a pack of store brand that smelled funny and I ended up throwing them away. Now we are using target brand sensative.

My DS had yeast a lot and this isn't like that. It isn't really red but more like chaffing. I will keep trying the EL's and coconut oil.

I think I will also put baby in baking soda bath tonight. Thanks for the suggestions!

  • Maybe try wiping with just plain water. Some people will keep a spray bottle and baby wipes in their bag. You can just wash the wipes with your diapers.
