What would you guys do

Just got diagnosed with bronchitis. The doctor gave me a Z-Pac and codeine cough syrup for the cough. Would you take the cough syrup? I am 6DPO, too early for a positive pregnancy test, so technically not pregnant at this time. I'm leaning toward not taking it, but the cough is pretty bad.

When I was in PUPO I had bronchitis and I was told I could take plain Robitussin, Tylonol or Penicillin. Took Penicillin which it finally went away after about 10 days.
Did you tell them there was a chance you could be pregnant when it was prescribed? I would call your RE/OB and just double check if it's safe.

They said not to take it if I was, but being in the 2WW it was a grey area. More and likely out this cycle but would hate to mess anything up if I was, bit I don't want it turning into something worse. I figure I would fill it since I have the prescription and start it if I get AF and am still coughing. It will be a good excuse to test earlier than normal. It's a nasty bug that left me with bronchitis, DH with pneumonia and DD with a double ear infection. I just want us all healthy again.

@lcwed this is a hard one because I understand the hesitation but it's so hard feeling like crap and not being able to sleep.

With that said I was absolutely no help but wanted to say I hope you feel better and sorry for all the family sickness!

Oh gosh! I hope your family gets healthy soon! That sounds terrible.

What are your thoughts on your chances? I can't see your siggy to remember if your doing TI, IUIs or whatever. Do you have a fever?

@CML11‌ I'm just temping/charting. I took me forever to ovulate this cycle so I don't think the chance is any better than previous cycles. We have actually hit more fertile days in previous ones and still a BFN. We were only able to hit -1 because we've all been sick. It had happened earlier we would have had fantastic timing. The only change is this is the first cycle my post o temps have been in the same range as my pregnancy chart. All the others have been lower. Trying not to read too much into it. I hope it just means my body hadn't recovered yet. No fever for me, just the persistent cough.

Oh gosh sorry your sick. ER doc gave me cough syrup w/codeine even though my chest xray was clear but have been coughing for 8 wks. My OB said it was fine and safe for pg women but not sure how it effects you in 2ww. On one hand you don't want to get worse. Guess I was no help lol. Hmm I'm curious what others say.

Hope you feel better soon. Maybe try the robitussin first. If you get AF or a bfn you can switch to the codeine if cough isn't better.

Cough syrup did nothing. Neither did Zpack, inhaler or predisone. Tried the other remedies too. Not sure why nothing is working.

FX something works for you!! Take care of yourself

I would take the zpack because getting really sick will definitely be bad for both lo if you are pregnant and you either way. I might take the codeine the first night because really. .if you are sure you are 6dpo there is probably not a placenta to pass things through yet as I think that's about the earliest you implant (someone else correct me if I am remembering wrong)... and if drink until it's pink is ok... all that said, maybe call you OB office and ask what they recommend. The benefits of restful sleep and getting well may far outweigh the risks of codeine this early. But i would call OB/GYN for peace of mind.

I'd take as prescribed.  Even if you are pregnant the embryo receives no nutrition from you at this stage.

Take the ZPack.  I am allergic to penicillin/Amoxocillin and have been give the ZPACK pregnant.  As matter of fact it was my last pregnancy I found out I was allergic as my mother never told me.  The codeine is more for comfort in your chest from coughing and irritation.  So if Robitussin is safe to take, I would take that to alleviate the cough.  I hope you feel better!!

Thanks guys.  I had a pretty restless night last night which probably messed with my temps, so I will probably take the codeine tonight and then wait for AF.  Cramping has started and there is a good chance I O'd 3 days before because of my open circles, so I'm pretty sure AF is on her way. @Kelley72 and @vh2014 your right about there not being any placenta or no nutrients directly from me.

@runner76 I use Benedryl for allergies sparingly because that stuff knocks me out.  Sorry about CD1.

@hooligans4 you can hijack my threads anytime plusalso you have a great reason for hijacking this one.

Much better.  I took the lowest recommended dose of the cough syrup last night and got a decent nights sleep.  I think that was the problem with my temperature drop yesterday.

If your cough is that bad and very painful, I would take it. But that is just me. There are a lot of 2WWs out there while life is still happening. I hope you feel better!!

There is no placenta until 6 weeks along in a pregnancy, so no transference of anything to a baby until then. TWW does not equal pregnant, so take the medicine. A sick body is way more of a risk to a possible pregnancy than a couple instances of taking a needed medication. And think about it, if what we did in our TWW had an effect on possible pregnancy, then none of us would be here, just imagine what women were doing 100 years ago when you had to wait for a second missed period just to guess that you might be pregnant.

@gscoville thanks for the explanation.  That makes total sense.  I can keep that in mind for future cycles.  The night I took it, seems to have done the trick so I'm glad I went ahead and took it.
