High Chairs - recs

Hey ladies, I know it's early, but I have to order my supplies online and allow a few weeks for delivery, so I'm thinking about which high chair to buy for LO (this also means I can't go look at anything!).  Using Baby Bargains and what's popular on Amazon I'm considering the Graco Blossom (downside: it doesn't collapse) or the Fisher-Price Healthy Care (does it really make sense to have a bunch of stuff to play with as part of the food tray?)  Any advice and suggestions for which features to look for would be much appreciated, as would any feedback on these two models.  Thanks!

Re: High Chairs - recs

  • I'm ordering the healthy care for my LO. I think he will like the toys and will sit in it and play while I cook dinner. I really like that the toy is attached so he can't knock it off. If you go with a different one, I have seen toys that suction cup to the tray.
  • Loading the player...
  • My sister loves her Blossom so that's what we got. I've actually had it out together since July cuz I was too excited and it hasn't been in the way.
  • We got the Graco Duo Diner at my baby shower.  I haven't used it yet, so I have no idea if I like it or not, but it seemed a little less bulky than the Blossom, but seems to do most of the same things. Not sure what your budget is, but my best friend has the Boon Flair and loves it.

  • We have a super tiny house and even when we needed space, we rarely ever collapsed the high chair.  If DS wasn't using it I just pushed it in a different room.  My favorite feature on our old high chair was that it had silicone straps that wiped off easily.  We don't have a dishwasher so I wouldn't have been able to run dirty straps through it and I really didn't want to take them off if they got really dirty.  I don't know if the ones you are looking at have straps like that or if they make ones that do (but I only bought that high chair 2 years ago), but that is something I would look for if I had to buy another one.  For DS2 we are just going to use the booster type that attaches to the chair and has a tray on it.

  • We have a fisher price booster for DS1. I recently tried DS2 in it because I needed to set him down to wipe the table and it was the nearest seat. He fit in it really well, even better with rolled up towels to help, so I ordered one for him with the toys on the tray since he won't be eating for a while still, but this will allow him to be higher up that the the bouncy seat while we all eat.

Now after seeing some recommendations I'm going to look into the graco and Eddie Bauer that have multiple seating positions so if LO isn't ready to sit straight up for very long, we can recline him.
  • I really want the boon flair. But it's so expensive!

We have the graco blossom and started LO in it last week since he can hold his head up very well. He'll be 15w tomorrow. He loves being at our level for dinner. I thought it was easy to put together, seems easy to clean, and I like that it adjusts to grow with LO. It's kinda bulky but still fits fine in the corner behind our table. I doubt I'll ever need a collapse able kind.

  • Thanks everyone! I feel like a dimwitted FTM, but why would a built-in toy be desirable on a tray intended for eating? Is the idea to keep them entertained/captive while you cook?

I put LO in the highchair now with toys while I am sitting at the table working on homework and, if he is awake, while we are eating.  He is tired of laying down to play so sitting in the highchair keeps him happy. You could wheel the highchair in the kitchen while you cook too.  Your LO may not always be eating in the highchair and if a toy is attached then you don't have to constantly be picking up a toy that they will inevitably throw on the floor as a game.

  • Thanks @cdseno‌ ! I hadn't thought of that-avoiding the picking up the toy game would be great. :)
  • We also have the Graco Blossom and love it, we've been using it for weeks since it reclines, LO loves watching us in the kitchen and it's easy to interact with him in the highchair while getting things done.
  • Space is at a premium and I don't want a bulky traditional high chair so we are getting a clip on chair. Inglesina Fast Table Chair https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IOGIM9S/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_FySAub02NF0J8

  • We got DD a booster seat (Fisher Price Healthy Care Deluxe) and I loved not having to deal with a separate high chair. She used it for 2 years and only recently prefers to stand/kneel instead of sitting in her seat. A booster works great if you're planning to follow the AAP recommendation of waiting 6 months to start solids.

Look for easy to wipe down so hard plastic with no nooks and crannies will be much easier than a cute cushy one. At first you'll also want a tray right up next to them since food really does go everywhere when they start to feed themselves.

    We have one too.
  • Another Graco Blossom family. I put it together Christmas morning, but we haven't used it yet. I feel like I'm really going to like it. I'm a sucker for multi-stage/4-in-1 type things!

  • We just recently purchased one from ikea. It was very inexpensive and simple. LO seems to really love it.

  • We have the Blossom as well but it's still in the box. Guess we should probably think about putting it together soon. I hadn't even though to have DS sit in it and play while we're cooking/eating.

  • We are actually going to IKEA today to get their cheap one. One of the plus sides is, if it gets too messy I can take it out side and hose it down or just put it in the shower while cleaning E.
  • We had a Boon Flair with DS1 but neither of us really liked it, so I sold it.  We used a FP Space Saver chair for him and will for DS2.

When out and about we have one of these and it got a ton of use the first time around:  https://www.amazon.com/Inglesina-Fast-Table-Chair-Black/dp/B00IOGIM9S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420745049&sr=8-1&keywords=inglesina+high+chair

  • I have a fisher price space saver highchair. It attaches to any dining room chair it has three positions and can be changed into a booster seat later on. It less pricey then a normal highchair and it great if you are trying to save space. I got mine from Amazon for under $40. LO isn't eating solid food yet but has been sitting in it because he likes to see what is going on at the dinner table.
  • We have the Baby Trend "Trend" Hi Chair and love it! It has two different tray options and collapses to take up less space - and it was relatively inexpensive as far as high chairs go!
  • We have a tiny house and no room anywhere for a dining table — our eat-in kitchen is too small. So we have this:

    https://mobile.walmart.com/ip/Cosco-Flat-Fold-High-Chair-Zahari/21553130 (different pattern).

I like it because it folds so small, and I hang it on a hook in the kitchen.

    Boon Flair. Love it.
Soooo easy to clean. Simple. Stylish. Not too big.

On the cons - it doesn't fold. It can also be pricey. But I got ours 50% off.

  • PSA of sorts - Target.com has the Graco DuoDiner in Starburst on clearance for $97.98. Looks like maybe just a discontinued print? Either way that's at least $40 cheaper than others that are the exact same. https://www.target.com/p/graco-duodiner-highchair/-/A-13773927

  • We have a Gracco and absolutely love it. So does DS
  • We have a Graco Duo Diner; it's been great so far.  I really wanted the Boon Flair, but I couldn't justify the price tag.

I hope I like the Boon bc it was expensive compared to the other options.  I just bought the Britax Clicktight Boulevard carseat too, so no more baby crap for awhile.
I'm sure you'll love it!  I have a couple friends who have it and they have no complaints.  Like I said, I wish I had the Boon, but we splurged on other items so I couldn't justify the price.

  • I like the boom but I can't get over how big the base is on it. It's ginormous
  • We have the OXO sprout chair in walnut/taupe - love it! it might not be tall enough for your counter, though, but does grow with LO up to toddler.

  • We have the gracco blossom and love it! Yes it's not collapsable but it's super transportable so we're able to make use of it all over the house! DD loves it, it was totally worth the investment.
