Cloth Diapering

Rash cream

Hey ladies I'm just jumping in to ask a quick question. LO is 3.5 months old and for like the 1st month he had a pretty severe yeast rash that took awhile to go away and during that time he was on Nystatin and wearing disposables. He has been doing pretty good in that area and been wearing cloth for a month and a half but is now starting to show signs of it coming back, I'm assuming it's yeast again. He has been sleeping about 12+ hrs a night in his Sbish or Totsbots and so I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it? Also, he recently started going to the sitters and she uses disposable wipes. Curious first off if you think it could be the wipes or his long stretches of sleep? Also, if I want to use the Nystatin but not change to disposables, could I use a piece of fleece cloth as a liner to prevent the cream from touching the diaper? Wasn't sure if this was something done usually and if it was safe to do.

Re: Rash cream

  • Yes, rashes can be caused by longer time spent in cloth (wetness sensitivity) and sensitivity to chemicals in disposable wipes.

Also, the concern with using cloth while treating for yeast is less about the cream hurting the diapers and more about the yeast growing in the cloth and reinfecting the skin. It is generally recommended to wash the diapers with 1/4 of bleach to kill the yeast (and rinse, rinse, rinse), but doing that for the 2+ weeks it takes to treat yeast would really take a toll on the cloth. You can treat with TTO and GSE, but I don't know the exact routine for that.
