I had a small one in dd's room but it was for a decoration. It was pretty and very girly and thought it would be cute in there. Otherwise, there is no purpose for one so why would it be weird
@jk3610 that could be the funniest meme I've ever seen!! Lol'ing over here!! The only reason we had mirrors in our 1st's room was because they were the closet doors. I pry won't in this LO's room. And I'm weirded out by the video monitors too! I think some creeper will somehow hack in a see my baby. (Unrealistic, I know, but honest! :-) )
I think this is one of the strangest things I've heard. I had a mirror in the nursery. Babies normally enjoy them. I don't even know how a mirror could be spooky.

I agree- not sure how exactly a mirror is creepy, I just don't currently have plans for one in this LO's nursery. To the OP, I will say once DD became mobile, her favorite thing was the full length mirrors in her room. :-)

This is only a concern in devices that connect to your computer network. Granted, many of the options out there do that now, but there are plenty that don't. The worst I've heard about the other kind are that people can pick up the audio on nearby cordless phones or CB/ham radio, and I'm not sure how much truth there is to that or how many people are out there trying to do it.
In some cultures it is thought to be bad luck if a baby sees its own reflection but, tons of baby toys have mirrors. I just wouldn't want an extra thing to clean.
is it odd to not want a mirror in the baby room? I have this feeling that a mirror is spooky. I feel the same about the computer baby monitors.. Is this weird? I feel a little crazy because I don't really know my reasoning behind it, I just don't like the thought of a mirror! Ahh help!
I wouldn't have thought it was weird that you don't want a mirror. I do think it's weird that you're making such a big deal out of not wanting a mirror.
Mirrors are spooky to me because of ghosts lol. Too many scary movies and I have an overactive imagination. Going into the baby room in the middle of the night and there being a mirror might freak me out too, especially since I am home alone a lot when my fiancé is gone working. It is a dumb fear I will admit and I honestly would never have posted about this, instead just don't put a mirror in there. I've never heard anything about mirrors being a requirement in baby rooms so no big deal! No one will even think twice about there not being a mirror in Babys room.
Do you not look at a mirror every day? I have a mirror in our bedroom, there is a mirror in our bathroom. I just don't get this. I look at the rear view and side mirrors of my jeep daily. I don't know. Maybe I am the crazy one. I'm just not seeing this at all.
Mirrors at night are way creepier than mirrors during the day. If you have an active imagination and hate scary movies more than anything like me, mirrors are creepy at night. I get you, OP.
This is the weirdest question I've ever heard. Babies LOVE looking at themselves in mirrors. Great opportunity to teach them to mimick your facial expressions too!
Yea...mirrors aren't creepy. They are functional. Babies love them. They are on 1/2 their damn toys. However it isn't something to get your panties in a bunch. Skip the frigggin mirror. There are no laws in nursery decorating. Your parenting card won't be taken away. And the monitor--skip it if you are worried about something...spooky. Our parents did. Although in their defense it wasn't out of some fear it was because that technology wasn't available yet. This isn't rocket science. It's just decorating.
Edited because stupid auto correct had me looking like I agreed with OP. I really don't.

There is a hacker in Russia who hacked in to multiple video feeds that stream over the internet and posted them to the internet for anyone to see. He/she said it was done to let people know how easy it is to do and that you should change your password (apparently most of these devices come with a password that is either "password" or "1111" and no one changes them), but it's still creepy as fuck. Audio only for me, thanks!
I don't know how a normal mirror would be creepy, but DD's dresser (changing table) has a mirror. The whole thing is an antique from the 1920s. DH is a little weirded out by it. He has on more than one occasion talked about all the things that mirror must have seen. I don't know why he assumes horrible things have been done in it's presence but whatever, lol. It's just a mirror, it won't be stealing any baby souls.

Haha. I clicked on this thinking you were wanting a mirror in the babe's room. I was going to comment that I thought it was creepy, so I guess your fears aren't that unpopular. However, like pp, I don't understand how this is an issue. Just don't put a mirror in there? Is there already a mirror that you need to take out?
Also, I heard a creepy story about a family checking their video baby monitor and saw hands picking the baby up. Turns out, their video feeds got crossed with the neigh or baby monitor. They didn't find this out until racing into their baby's room to find it sleeping peacefully, alone.
Bleah I am creeped out even though I know how it ends. I've got the shivers.
That happened to my ex SIL. She put my niece down for a nap and checked the monitor like a minute later and she was gone. Turns out her feed was crossing into her neighbors'. I'd have a damn heart attack.
As for mirrors... Not a huge fan at night. They do creep me out a little. Shitty thing in our house all the bedroom closets are mirrored. They'll all be removed but my bed isn't where I want it to be because if it were the mirrored closet would be straight across from it. No thanks! My mom thinks I'm crazy but half asleep, get up to go to the bathroom, check on baby or hear a noise and I'll scare the crap out of myself thinking someone is in my room.
