I started a new job in August, found out I was expecting in October. I work remotely and my boss lives on the other side of the country. How should I tell him that I am expecting?
I have told mine around 10-12 weeks. I don't do a pregnancy announcement - my idea of telling people is when they see me in public and ask; or they hear it from my husband or through the grapevine.
I waited until I was 14-15 weeks. I would have waited a bit longer since I didn't start showing until I was well over 20 weeks, but 14-15 weeks coincided with the end of year performance review and next year project/goal planning. I felt it would have been too difficult to goal plan and lay out my projects for the next year without mentioning that I wouldn't be there for 4 months, and discussing who and how my work would get covered. I did tell him that I did not want the news made public yet, so I am sure he told our director and potentially HR, but no one I work with knew until I was around 18-20 weeks.
However, if I have been less than 12 weeks I wouldn't have told my boss at that point. That is my minimum. Depending on time of year I would like to wait the next time until around 16-18 weeks to notify my management, and let everyone else figure it out on there own. like previous poster I don't like public announcements.
Thank you all for the replies! I am now at 15 weeks and am going to tell my boss after the next dr appointment at the end of this week. I am nervous to tell him, but, mostly because I just started the job in August of this year. Pretty much have been pregnant the entire time I've been in this new position.
