April 2015 Moms

Is anyone else Nesting already??

I always started preparing for baby around 28 - 33 weeks, but it seems I am like going crazy with organization... I bought little bins for the boys toys and organized them by type... and continue to keep them that way... I am planning on printing out pictures of legos, lincoln logs, animals, ect. to glue on the front to make it easier for them to put everything away right themselves... I just went through all of their clothes removing everything that doesn't fit (I did the same thing for me and DH)... I moved the baby out of the nursery and into the "big boy room"... I've hemmed all of his pants that are two long  in such a way I can easily make them longer when he grows... I've made like three hats and ten headbands for baby... decided how were going to re-do the nursery started working on it... went through all of the baby clothes to separate what is neutral and what isn't... and organized my entire house... All this week...

Last week I kept my kids alive and fed... that was it.

Any one else going through a random super early burst of, "I must get everything perfect for baby"?

  • I wouldn't call it nesting but cleaning like crazy… also thinking ahead to hosting Christmas.. YIKES!
  • I would probably be nesting, but we don't have a room for the baby at the moment. I'm a little terrified of bringing her home to a 2 bedroom house with no where to put her! Though I did just move all of my daughters toys to the basement and set up a toy room last week. I have the urge to nest, but nothing to work with!
  • God this... hurts me a little... bc i think I'm starting to get into this mode. I go into the room that is going to be the baby's room and my chest tightens bc there is literally nothing i can physically do to make changes yet. So much stuff has to be moved out and needs to be moved to a storage unit. But i cannot do it alone and DH is already so stressed with work that anytime i bring up wanting to baby-fy thst room, he gets upset. Last jight he even told me the baby can sleep in the living room and we can make changes when the baby gets here... i don't know what crack pipe he is smoking but it really upset me. :(
  • I've started organizing and clearing out the room that will be the nursery.  We already have the crib set up and I've bought all the fabric for decorating the room.

  • Yes, and since I'm a FTM I am constantly thinking about the nursery and wanting to do little things here and there to get it done. I've ordered crib, dresser, glider and curtains. Now I'm working on the smaller things like wall decor. I'm also doing an accent wall with gold dots. Let me tell you how freaking long it took me to do the math to try to figure out how to evenly stagger them on the wall with the amount of dots I had to use. Too long.

  • i thought I was the only one! I commented about this in another posting!

I got the sudden urge to clean everything at 11:30 at night and I woke my DH to do the tubs in the bathrooms AND moved my sofa's for my tree and I don't even have my tree yet!

This morning I woke up at 5 am to clean the microwave and behind the fridge! WHY!? I have NO clue! lol I'm just glad to have my house back to normal again!

  • I've started to do little things here and there. Tomorrow is a day devoted to cleaning the house because I agreed to have my niece's 2nd birthday party at our house. It was kind of a win win - sister has a place for the party and all our family will come and get to see our house that we moved into in July.

We moved into the house mid July. I was there a few days and then left to go out of state for 10 days. When I got back I couldn't figure out why I was so tired and had ZERO motivation to unpack, hang pictures, etc. Little did I know I was pregnant at the time. This explains it all. Needless to say, we have been in the house 4 months and I have hung 2 things on the wall. TWO.

  • no time for nesting!

I plan to start after Christmas.  We have ot move #1 and #2 out of the nursery and into the attic bedroom before baby comes, so that will be the real project to prepare.

  • I have defintely been organizing and getting our spare room/my craft room more baby-ready. I hadn't even noticed I was doing it, but SO the other day said, "Do you know what you are doing?" I responded with, "Cleaning like I always do!" "Nope, nesting," he said.

  • Haha I love that you point out that last week, you just kept them alive. But yes, I've been having spurts of crazy baby-related motivation. I went through the storage bins of clothes from DS1 and pulled out some things that will likely fit and be seasonally appropriate for this next DS, and rearranged our DS1's room in order to accommodate the baby's crib (which we will likely not be putting up for at least a year, since we have a co-sleeper for our room).
  • Definitely getting in that mode! I made a whole list of every single thing I want to "spring clean" before the baby comes, and a list of all the DIY projects I hope to complete. I want to be caught up on my scrapbooks/photo albums before the baby comes - I know it's just going to get harder to keep up with those kinds of things with the baby so at least if I'm caught up I have a shot at keeping up with things :P so far I've purged my and DH's clothes and purged under the bathroom sinks and in the bathroom drawers which had become a dumping ground for old, mostly empty and expired products. It feels good to have two giant garbage bags full of clothes going to charity and two kitchen garbage bags full of old bathroom stuff out of my space and my life!
  • It is all I want to do! We find out the sex next week and after that we will start purging, cleaning and decorating. Finding it hard to keep motivated at work when this is all I can think about :)
  • Me!! Except I think I'm being fueled by panic that this baby is going to come early and/or I go on bedrest early again. I'm only 18w now but just told my husband that we have 12 weeks to get everything done. I thought he was going to pass out!
  • I have just gotten to the point when I can skip my afternoon nap and not be a zombie by 4 o'clock. I've been using nap time to make floor pillows for my DD's reading area that I am making for her room. We found out yesterday that we are having a boy and the crafting has been put on hold until I clean out the closet in my craft room (soon to be baby boys nursery) so I have some where to put the stuff that I have bought him. I plan on continuing to craft in that room for a while longer and then need to find a home for all my crafting things. I'm stressing just thinking about where I am going to put it all.

  • Not here....I have been completely the opposite actually lol. I usually have a very clean and organized home, lately I just dgaf!! But I think it's because we are currently remodeling our soon to be new home so I'm just not worried about things at our house right now!

  • Not at all. I've done nothing. I should organize the baby clothes.. But just lazy. I'll wash the covers to the Rock n Play and Swing. I won't need a nursery for at least 6 months after the baby is born. So yeah.. Nothing. It's my 3rd boy, pretty much set. Bought a crib and a stroller.
  • I think this thread prompted my all of a sudden, uncontrollable urge to organize my cupboard and actually follow through this time. I keep seeing things that I really want to get done but then I get tired and don't do them.

  • I am. I also packed half my hospital bag when I was around 5 weeks.

I had this problem when I was pregnant with my twins at the time my mother in law was staying in one room and the room I wanted as the nursery was a storage room FULL of large furniture items... My solution was make a plan (Go in the room figure out what we are storing and what I am doing with it, move to the shed find place for in the house, sell, or throw away). Anything, I could move I did and anything I couldn't move I shoved in a corner so I could clean around it and then I told DH that in three weeks we were going to move everything out I lined up a friend of his to come over and help so they could play video games after... and I bought steaks. They were upset at first but having it scheduled and fun after really helped and they seemed to enjoy it.

This was so me last time! My nursery was completely set up for a baby boy when I found out I was pregnant with it being a boy all I did was put the PnP back in my room and wash some sheets. Clothes were already sorted the same way I put them up NOTHING needed done.

I'm sorry... although, glad it helped maybe.
  • I wish I had your energy! You have already done so much! I am just struggling to get through the day lately. :(
  • Just in the planning stages right now. I'd love to dig in and start, but we're in the process of getting bids from contractors for a big foundation repair and bathroom fix(seriously awful and long story, homeowner woes I suppose). We were hoping to have it all done and taken care of by end of year, but it's looking like that may not happen. FX it will. In the meantime we also have to rip out the carpet in the nursery and put in new flooring. We're not wanting to move everything out of that room to do the floors until the other work is done, since it will include fixing the currently un-usable utility room door, which is next to said nursery and will make moving the old and new flooring as well as current furniture so much easier.
That being said, we are picking out the flooring and likely purchasing all the materials for the nursery floor very soon, which will be stored in the shed until we can do the job.
MIL wants to get us a crib, so I told her after the first of the year she's welcome to splurge on that at her leisure. Otherwise, I think it's just a lot of planning and making lists.
We have our A/S on the 26th, and plan on setting up our registry and all that good stuff soon after that. I wanted to have the A/S first to rule out any special needs, even though the panorama came back with a lower risk, we just wanted to have one more thing to rule out those things, and DH wants to be able to know the sex and personalize the items we buy based on whatever theme he decides. I love that he's so excited about a theme, he could have cared less about anything like that for our wedding or any other event! ha!

  • I don't know. I decided I wanted to clean out all of our closets the other day but I sometimes decide to do that kind of stuff anyway. Our crib needs to be refinished (it was used and it's sorta beat up) and I think I'm gonna make my husband start tomorrow.

  • Where are you ladies finding the energy? Everyday on my way home from work I think about how I need to clean out the closet and my drawers. Maternity clothing is spilling out while my non-maternity is shoved way to the bottom preventing drawers from closing. I keep *thinking* about how I need to clean out the pantry so I know what I have/need for baking but again--I get home and the couch looks so inviting.

I'm thinking this is all because we are not in our own home. Long story short--our house flooded to the point of destruction over 1.5 years ago. We moved in with my parents and have been waiting for FEMA assistance ever since. My mom passed away in January so mixed blessing that we can be here to help my dad. I think since we don't have a nursery and it's not MY kitchen I'm not quite as motivated. Good news though--FEMA approved our town's grant project yesterday so hopefully by the time the baby comes we will be out from under the flooded house's mortgage and into a new home of our own.

  • I've been moving all week (why I've been MIA) and am having so much fun making my new house a home. Don't know if it's nesting or just me really wanting a cozy environment to live in but I like it!

We are building our dream home and it should be done by the first week of December... Currently living in my father-in-law's basement and have been for about a month. Let me say, this place has never been cleaner! I'm not sure if it's nesting, I'm just super anxious and ready for my move into the new place, or if my borderline OCD is becoming full force OCD. Either way, I'm productive as all get out right now! Lol!
  • @karrunrun ugh that does not sound like a pleasant year and a half! So sorry about the house and your mother but FX the timing on the new house works for you and the new LO! We're in the middle of a big house repair and are looking at having to move out for a week(or maybe two) sometime in the near future while the repairs are made. I am not looking forward to it!

@rmaurer08 you're welcome to come visit here and organize for me anytime! :D My organizational skills took a nosedive when we moved into our new place last spring and I'm still trying to figure out where the hell to put things!

I'm mentally nesting, I just can seem to manage transferring it to the physical world.
  • Sort of, i had a random burst of wanting to actually set the spare room up like a nursery and got that done!
I hope i randomly feel like doing the kitchen soon, we had mice for a while and now i have to clean the cupboards and everything in them but can't seem to get enthusiastic despite the table being covered in all of the clean dishes and basically unusable!
  • OMG! I have to go make the baby quilt NOW!
  • I called off sick today just so I can tackle some things around the house. I really haven't done much yet for baby, besides the one or two onseies I've bought to actually feel pregnant, and feel like I'm SOOO behind.

  • This pregnancy still doesn't feel real to me, so I haven't done a single thing.
I go back and forth with this exact feeling. I've been having urges to clean my house and get organized, but I haven't bought any baby-related items or started planning a nursery or anything like that! I'm 20 weeks and wondering when I'm finally going to actually believe I'm having a baby!
I am still at this stage. DH and I were out and about this weekend and he made the comment he was surprised I hadn't bought anything for baby yet (clothes wise)....we have a crib, pack n play, and a bouncer. I thought that after finding out the sex of the baby it would help, but it hasn't. Maybe when I start feeling baby more often, I will have a constant reminder? We will see.
