FSTs and flats

I have some Walmart flour sack towels. The edges are finished really bulky and also bunch up, so they have lumpy spots and it left a sore on Logan's hip when I used it ON.

Do more expensive flats have weird edges? Do you think serging the edges of my FSTs would help? I think they would still bunch, like my burp cloths do, but maybe it wouldn't be so bad since the bulky edges would be gone?

My Walmart receiving blankets are serged, so no weird edges.  Same with my Osocosy.

My flats edges are mostly hemmed not serged but it's not crazy bulky. The hemp babies flag I have is serged.

My birdseye flats are hemmed on two sides....natural edges on the two sides that don't have cut threads due to weaving ( sewers what is the name of the edges that are not cut on a bolt of fabric?).

I have some no-name flats and GMD flats, they both bunch weirdly.  Kind of like the edge gets folded over on itself.

I suppose I could iron them and that would solve the issue, but that's just not gonna happen.

I have some nicki's bamboo flats that don't have a seam like that and do not roll/bunch. they are super soft too.

Here's what the GMD selvage looks like, padfolded. I straighten it a bit with my fingers so it lays a bit flatter.

I have imagine flats and from what I can tell by this thread they are the same as GMD flats.

I just compared my FSTs and flats.  I have always used FSTs in the kitchen, not as diapers b/c I prefer flats for dipes.  I would say that my Imagine flats bunch/roll less on the edges than the FSTs.  Not a ton but a little.  I think another thing that helps is that my flats are only stitched on 2 sides as opposed to the FSTs are stitched on all 4 sides.  This makes the edges less prominent when folding.

I just took a pic.  FST on the left.  Imagine flat on the right.  Looking at it again, the flat bunches a lot less.

I would prefer bamboo, but I'm not going to be picky. Brand doesn't matter, as long as they don't bunch a ton.
