Weird poop but no other issues

So my 2 month old is gaining great and is generally happy but usually has mucousy poops, and occasionally greenish watery poops or green streaks of mucous. His dr is not worried about a possible allergy but I'm wondering if I should get a second opinion? If the only symptom is weird poops do I have anything to worry about?

Re: Weird poop but no other issues

  • DS had the same issue. Do you have oversupply/over active let down? Too much foremilk can cause this, too. I also eliminated dairy at 2.5w since DS was gassy as well and I wasn't sure what was causing his issues. My oversupply resolved around 9w, but I'm still off dairy.

  • @nunzchucks‌ thanks for your response! I definitely had oversupply/overactive letdown with lo#1(and he had tons of green mucousy poop) and I'm not having any of the symptoms this time so I don't think so...have your LOs issues been resolved?

  • They have! I can't say whether it was the dairy or the OALD subsiding, but with in a week of giving up dairy, he was much better.
  • I guess my question really is, do I NEED to give up dairy if the only symptom is weird poop? Is it hurting him somehow or could there be long-term effects?

  • My pedi was more concerned about blood in his poop than the green color. Have you seen any brown or red flecks or streaks in the poop or mucous?
  • Nope, I have not seen that, @rocknrollfriend‌, just the occasional green streaks. I guess that's a good sign :)

  • My daughter will be 11 weeks on Tuesday and ever since 5 weeks she's had green sometimes yellowish mucusy poop. I definitely had an over supply at the time it started. I feel like it's gotten better, but do still feel overfull sometimes. Her pedi said I can try to cut dairy out but didn't seem worried at all. It's so confusing. She also isn't colicky or seem in pain, although she can be pretty gassy (mostly at night).
  • --She also has it every poopy diaper. Like you no streaks or flecks of brown or red.
  • @Cadamsxo‌ I had the same thing with LO#1 (green mucousy poop every diaper with no other symptoms) and neither our Dr or LC was worried. In fact my Dr. actively discouraged me from cutting dairy when I asked because it's hard to get some of the nutrients dairy supplies from other sources.
As a mom it's hard not to worry though!
