Grunting

Does anyone else's LOs grunt constantly? I'd say during the day it's pretty normal and only when he has to poop or fart. He doesn't seem in pain or anything. At night though it's making me lose my mind. He gives me a good stretch at the beginning of the night where he's sleeping soundly. After the MOTN feeding though, he's grunting nonstop for about 3 hours. He's sleeping the whole time though so it's not like I can do anything about it. He eventually falls asleep into a deeper sleep but those few hours are making me lose my mind. Anyone else have this or have any suggestions?

Re: Grunting

  • Me. Exactly this. DH and I take turns sleeping in the guest room by the nursery so the other can get sleep in our room. You cant sleep with the monitor hes so loud!

  • LO does this for an hour before waking up MOTN, so I am awake an hour before she is just listening to her grunts. Ugh. Someone give us phenomenal advice please!!!
  • Alex grunts all the time! Day & night, awake or asleep, while she is on the boob & passing gas or pooping, it's funny (most of the time)! She tends to stretch a lot while she's grunting too.

Drew on the other hand never really grunts. He just gets fussy.

Don't worry OP you're not alone. I'm not really sure that there is anything you can do about it, I assume this phase shall pass too.

  • You described my lo to a tee. No advice. And unfortunately this is a new phenomenon for us in the last week or so. Hoping someone has a magical answer.

  • DD does the exact same thing, and she kicks
her legs while she does it. It's kinda cute. I'm so tired these days that I have no trouble sleeping through it though.

  • Glad to know it seems pretty common. I've normally been able to sleep through it but lately he's kicked it up a notch.

  • Yup. Lots of grunting, snorting and almost wheezing both when she's sleeping and awake.  We play a game about what animal she's being.  It doesn't seem like gas pains or anything because she's not uncomfortable, it's just something they do I guess,

  • Yup, us too, for sure.  I have a hard time sleeping through it.  I think I'm either going to stick her on my DH's side of the bed tonight because he sleeps through it better than I do, or I'm going to put the air mattress in her room and keep her in there/take turns with DH on staying with her vs. sleeping in our own room.  I am NOT sleeping well for the little bit of time I actually get to sleep!

  • I've got myself a grunter as well. It's non stop. At first I was getting up MOTN and feeding her bc I thought she was awake then I realized a day later that her eyes were still closed when she was doing it. She grunts in her sleep!! She's also kicking those little legs of her too when she does it. Not sure what it's all about but it def keeps me up.

Same exact thing with DS. I used to try to feed him until I realized he's sleeping. He's also flailing around too when he's doing it.

  • We have a grunter on our hands as well.

I got so fed up with MIL saying her tummy is hurting her!! No she's just a grunty baby!

I find she's doing it less but still definitely a little grunter! It's cute when you're not trying to sleep...
