Dairy and soy-free mommas come in

so I suspect DS has an allergy. What did you eat to clear up the issues? I've been going dairy free, but have been reading that I should also go soy free. I'm beginning to run out of food ideas. I was vegetarian, but soy and dairy free makes that nearly impossible, so I've added chicken back into my diet.

  • I'm confused as to why you would go soy free just bc you are dairy free. If your LO has a cows milk allergy or sensitivity the alternative is soy or goat. Instead of reading you should see an LC or if you don't have one in your area talk to your pedi and Dr, they can help you with breastfeeding.

Milk and soy intolerance often go together so it is often recommended to eliminate both and see how baby does.

@nstark2908‌ I was just over on the bf board and there's a few helpful posts about this over there. Good luck!

  • @Everyusernameistaken‌ ok thanks I don't know that.
  • My LO has a milk and soy intolerance, I'm not a vegetarian but right now my lunch time ritual is a bowl of oatmeal made with almond milk and a peanut butter sandwich, but I'm sure you've tried that.  I am using a lot of goat cheese when I can to make salads and I've been enjoying a lot of cold pasta salads since I can make them while she's asleep and eat them all day long... Do you eat eggs? I know some vegetarians do and others don't. Maybe see if you can get in on some egg based dishes. To me it almost sounds like you'd need to move to a raw food diet to keep the vegetarian thing going for you while also keeping an eye on your LO's tummy.

  • I've made a lot of soups and stews. I am on a paleo diet, before I was more primal and eating some dairy. Looking up paleo recipes may help you find some good ideas. Really my biggest suggestion is to shop the outer part of the grocery store. Dairy is hidden in a lot of boxed foods.

  • Thanks for the ideas! I used to only shop the outer part of the grocery store, but pregnancy made me lazy. I've pretty much been living off of eggs, fruits, and vegetables. I'll have to start eating oatmeal that sounds like a good change of pace.

  • I eat a lot of vegetables, rice, chicken, pasta. Make sure you check ingredients like a Hawk. You be surprised what has dairy or soy in it. My doc told me to do 3 weeks dairy free and soy free then add soy back in. Sadly he's sensitive to soy too...

The dairy I'd easy to avoid to me. The soy not so much.

  • I'm gluten free so I understand having a limited diet. It can be difficult st times, but it's all about getting into a new routine. Here are a few on my meals that might work for you. Refried bean tacos, baked potatoes, rice/chicken/veggies, soups, chilli, salads... That's what I can think of off the top of my head.
  • How did you know they have an allergy?
  • My daughter had green mucousy poops and was super fussy because of gas.
