Cloth Diapering

Charlie Banana

purchasing CD tonight and had a question before I place my order. I am a first time mom and thought I had done all the research I needed, until someone told me one size pockets do not fit newborns and make them lay funny , the kit I am now looking at comes with 6 newborn diapers and the rest are one size. Some one with experience using charlie banana one size from birth, your insight would be greatly appreciated! is it worth the extra money to go with the pack with newborns ? or can I get by no problem with the one size and im just being bought into this newborn must have. help! :)

Re: Charlie Banana

  • Pretty much no OS diaper will fit a newborn. Their legs are just so skinny. However, even though I hated my Charlie Banana pockets, I do remember them fitting pretty early because of the way the leg size adjusts.

Nb stashes are a good investment because they have great resale value.

  • I like CBs but they didn't fit right away even though my guy was 8lb at birth.

  • baby is predicted to be on the smaller scale so im thinking if they dont fit an 8lb baby most likely wont fit my wee one either. so newborn may be the way to go.

  • DEFINITELY get newborn sizes. My babe was predicted to be on the larger size and OS still wouldn't have fit her. If you're new to CDing, I recommend blueberry newborn simplex (they're an AIO and have an umbilical scoop) or green mountain diaper's newborn workhorses with a Thirsties size 1 cover.

  • Mentioning only because nobody has yet.
You can get newborn diapers at a discount online if you don't mind them being "previously loved".
They have good resale value, but that also means that you can buy them second hand.

I definitely recommend getting some newborn diapers too.  There is no way my OS diapers would have fit either of my kids.  Prefolds/covers are a cheap way to go and they are great for stuffing or doublers or cleaning rags.  My newborn diapers have been used for 4 kids already (two of mine and two friends)  I used them for two months with both of my kids, so disposables would have been 4 months x 12 changes/day x 0.22 = $316 which is WAY less than I paid for them.  even for just one kid it's cheaper.  PLUS it's easier to get use cloth if you start from the beginning IMO.  That way it's what you are used to and your routine.

Also... not exactly your question, but were you buying all CB diapers?  The general recommendation around here is to buy a few different types and see what works for your baby.  I thought I'd like pockets/AIOs the best, and really I love prefolds/flats and covers because they are so easy to wash.  Different diapers fit babies differently.  Happy Heiny's were a terrible fit for my daughter, but they fit my son better.
