Cloth Diapering

Help! DS has figured out how to take his diaper off

My DS has figured out how to take his pants and diaper off. We only use OS Simplexes so I thought I'd have a lot longer before he figured out the snaps. Any tricks for keeping the diaper on? I've tried google but could not find anything cloth diaper specific. TIA!

  • This is what DD#2 recently figured out how to do.  She has only done it twice.  I wouldn't worry that it's an ongoing thing.  Unless it is.

  • Overalls.

When my friend's twins figured this out (complete with poop painting on the walls at night) she would use 3-4 safety pins to pin their PJ pants and shirts together so they could not get to the diaper.

  • Overalls, of course. Thanks for your reply. I can tell I'm extremely sleep deprived since I didn't think of that. I hope he finishes cutting his molars quickly.

  • It depends on the age. Just don't flip out or act panicked when you see he's undone it even if it's poopy. That typically only encourages it. You can try just being persistent in saying it needs to stay on and just reclose it until he gets the idea. If he is a little older (at least 18m) I'd say use it as a time to start potty training. And let him know that if the diaper comes undone or off, he needs to be in the bathroom. Unless you're really lucky, nothing is going to work the first time. You can also cover the diaper, but that only made it more of a challenge they wanted to conquer for my 2.
  • Does a onesie and pants stop him? My LO is only 9 months and already likes peeling her Velcro tabs open when she doesn't have pants on....but she doesn't even bother with a buttoned onsie and pants covering.
