just another vent

first off....if you ever decide to have work done to your house don't....

this little job of ours that started on 9/8 is still not done

and now he's saying not til after thanksgiving

we haven't been home since we left for disney on 9/28....from there we went right to my ils

which means or sleeping arrangements have been screwed up, our commutes are longer, we now have to pay tolls and get gas more often

and our contractor's son, who is his "finish" guy (put up all the trim work and molding and the shelves and stuff in our closet) has decided now would be a good time to open a bakery....and focus all his energy on that

and we need to order our cabinets, and we just want to go to home depot and get their in stock stuff, but they said it would take like 2 weeks to get someone out to measure (bc apparently our blueprints are wrong) so we asked our guy to have someone measure, a fancy cabinet guy...and he did...and what he gave us was like, plans that you can make up yourself on lowes' website....without any measurements....

how i am supposed to take a print out from lowes to homedepot? (we have gift cards there)

and is this what a fancy cabinet guy does? make his proposals for customers on lowes website?

i am so livid...i just want to go home

i'm 14 weeks pregnant, my bp is already a little too high...it was very high towards the end of my last pregnancy....i already spilled a little protein my first drs visit....

the bathroom is done....all we need is the molding and carpeting and inspection...i can live without cabinets....we had no kitchen for a month before we went away....all they did the other day was put molding around 2 doors and a window...what about the whole floor? or the other window? or hang the other closet doors? and they did nothing yesterday...NOTHING! i was at my folk's all day (our house is across the street) waiting for our appliances to finally be delivered (had to keep postponing bc we HAD to wait for HIS BEST tile guy to come do the tile ugh!) and no one showed up to do any work..just showed up to take the pick up away and empty it...didn't even come back with it (been leaving a pick up in our drive way for garbage instead of a dumpster) oh and they left the "cabinet measurements"

and not to sound whatever, but i literally can't even right now

next time i see him i so want to just lay into him...how does he not get that we want back in like, now?

how can he say last week he wants to be done this week and then turn around and nonchalantly say oh not until after thanksgiving...wtf

OH my goodness, I would be livid too! I'm so sorry lady - hugs! I hope you guys can put some pressure on them to get it done!

Oooh, I'd fire your cabinet maker.  Cabinets are expensive and he sounds not so great!  That sounds like a royal PIA.  Luckily we can't afford to remodel, so we're livin' the mid-80s style!

Not sure what your contract says, but put the pressure on them (be prepared to fire them and hire someone new) to finish by an exact date. 

The best advice we got was to put an end date on our contract because the company/contractors do other jobs at the same time they are doing yours, and the jobs worth more money or with contracted end dates get done first. 

If there is no electrical or plumbing work left to be done, if my contract allowed, I would have one conversation with them and tell them they need to be out by 12/1, finished or not, and I will only pay for the work they completed by that date. Email it to your project manager so it is in writing.

To have entire days go by where no one is working on your house is unacceptable. You are paying them a lot of money to…work on your house in their free time between other jobs? No! Be bossy! Be a bitch! You can do it!

thanks everyone...

i'm just surprised that now it's dragging on....and we only used this guy because he did work on my parent's house....but it's not like we're not happy with the results so far...everything is fantastic (omg the bathroom is like a total transformation...eventually i'll post before and after pics...)

but i'm just so tired

i think it's just all the stress, with living at my in laws, her not sleeping, being 14 weeks pg- dh and i are yelling for no reason bc we're so stressed out, trying to find the money for everything, the contractor finding something wrong that will cost us more money at every turn, dd not sleeping....oh said that already...my work is slipping and i'm on performance review and could quite possibly be fired by the new year...

you ever just have one of those days/weeks/months where you are just done with everything and want to crawl in a hole and cry all day and maybe sleep? yeah...that's what it's been like for me for the last month or 2

sorry to vent...but i have to let it out somewhere...mom and dad think i'm overreacting, and dh is in the same boat so he agrees....just needed another outlet....

thanks everyone! you help me not feel like i'm overreacting...

so finally the son came by and lou talked to him about what we wanted done in our closets, and he said he'll have it done this coming week

dh also tried to impress upon the son our situation....see, we think our contractor thinks we're staying with our parents (we live across the street- and our contractor did their work 10 years ago so he knows them) so he doesn't think we've been that put out, even though we've told him

so then apparently my dad talked to him too and on friday the contractor called dh and dh could hear in his voice that he gets it now...and that the painter will be back saturday to do all the trim...and that his crew is all done so all we need is the carpet and the cabinets

so friday night we went to the house, and his guys ripped up all the carpet and even moved all the furniture out of the rooms that are getting carpeted...cleaned up all their mess....and really showed that he's on the same page

the painter guy almost finished yesterday and is back today to finish up...the carpet guy is coming tomorrow afternoon

we went to home depot, got in stock cabinets bc that's what we wanted...rented the truck, brought them home...dh's friend came over, our neighbor and the painter helped bring them all in...we went and picked up our stove (dh's bf had a new one for a few months then remodeled their kitchen and got another new one, so we're getting his old new one) and they brought it back

the contractor called us today saying that the cabinet guy is coming to hang the cabinets tomorrow, and the carpet guy is coming in the afternoon

it's all coming together....

thankfully!

i mean we'll have to clean the place like crazy and still need to get counter tops and a sink...but 

i think i can see the light at the end of the tunnel now

don't know if it's my pregnancy hormones or what but this construction is like a roller coaster!

carpet didn't get done yesterday bc carpet guy's daughter is sick (can't be mad at that...i'm not...carpet doesn't take a long time to do and doesn't need time to set like tile, so it'll be done this week)

but the cabinets weren't done bc there were plans...what?? all we originally had were print outs from lowes...then the guy was like oh you wanted home depot...so he has a guy at hd who we talked to Friday night, who knew about what our kitchen looked like and what we needed, so the cabinet guy must have faxed or emailed him info, right? ok so we changed one thing (drawers and a cabinet instead of one big cabinet) and the guy sketched out something new and told me to give it to cabinet guy...ok so sunday comes and we go back to the house and I can't find this sketch...whatevs no big deal...cabinet guy should have what he sent to home depot guy Friday, right? wrong...they come yesterday and contractor sends them home bc there were no plans...dh lays into him...calls hd guy who said "I told your wife not to lose it" and that he doesn't have it...but then miraculously is able to re sketch and email dh? hmmm....sketchy indeed...I remember seeing the sketch, but don't remember actually getting it...

ugh...so they should be in today to do them....its just one thing after another....either way dh got in touch with guys to come Saturday and help rebuild our beds and stuff and move our furniture back into the house co or not (final inspection) we're moving back in...the toilet and shower work...that's all that matters
