Have you guys ever heard of pappaperm?

It's paternal maternity leave. The whole purpose is to eradicate gender inequalities. The father gets paternity leave separate from the mother's. It cannot be transferred to her. Apparently it's hugely effective and it's becoming very normal in some countries for the dad to stay home for a long time. It's making a difference with women returning to work.

I find it very fascinating because it approaches the issue from the opposite side. Not that it would ever happen in the US since we can't even get decent maternity leave. Still cool.

  • MH was so bored after being stuck in the hospital for 4 days, that by the time his entire week off work was up he was ready to go back, make some money & enjoy adult interaction all day.

He swears up & down he'd much rather hire a nurse/someone to help out around the house the next time I have a baby.

Everyone is different though. I would love to get paid for 18 months!

  • Where I live, both parents can take 12 weeks parental leave to bond. It depends on the employer if it is paid or not.

  • I just find it fascinating because of the purpose. If the father doesn't take it, it's lost. They say that 90% of fathers take it. It's full pay by the way. It really encourages that shift in traditional gender roles.

My H is obsessed with the show Lilyhammer, and I researched it after seeing it mentioned there. Crazy Norwegians.
