Temper Tantrums.

Right, I know that you guys are tired of my posts about zipper problem of DD so here is another subject to get your teeth/thoughts into ;-).

My DD is now at stage where she takes temper tantrums, screaming, stamping feet, slamming doors and generally crying when she doesn't get her way.

So, I am struggling to control/discipline these tantrums, I have tried naughty step, sending her to room and even loss of priveleges but all these make her worse :-(?

How long did you try each of those things? You've got to be consistent.

When Ds tantrums and I ignore or discipline, I know it's going to get worse. I mean, the kid is mad and in his mind I'm not listening. Worse isn't bad if it means he will be less likely to flip next time.

You don't need to fix it for her so she stops.

At least one for everytime she takes one, all more than once.

Make sure she is somewhere she can't hurt herself or others and then ignore the tantrum.

Pick one discipline. Use it for every tantrum. Using discipline b because discipline a didn't work once is just going to confuse her.

That said, the only that works for my dd, 2.5, is to ignore it. She stops much sooner than if I threaten or try to fix it. Once she's done, we talk about why she threw it and how we could have used words instead. She's very slowly getting better.

Then take deep breaths yourself. Her tantruming won't get better if you can't control your own temper and your own reaction.

Tantrums are frustrating. It's part of parenting. You can't let your frustration get in the way( admitting this is way easier said than done and it's happened to me numerous times). If ignoring it doesn't work for you, try something else. Also, kicking and slamming doors gets disciplined here, tantrum or not. If she's in the middle of a tantrum, she gets carried to time out and generally finishes the tantrum there.

Not sure how old your LO is?

Mostly, when DD has tantrums, we ignore (after making sure she isn't hurting herself).  It usually passes in a few minutes.

What about for in public?

Reason I ask is because she has taken tantrums in public which is really embarrassing.

There was one time in a toy store, close to Christmas, when we went in for ideas for Christmas. We had browsed for around 5mins but then she spyed a toy she wanted so she picked it up and said "can I have this toy today?", I replied by saying "no, its close to Christmas and I already told you that you are not getting any toys today", so she started to stamp her feet and cried so I took her hand and took her out of store but she then cried louder.

And?

I mean, she was going to cry louder unless you gave in. You took her out and went home and I assume didn't give in. If you keep doing that she will stop, but you can't give in.

She is 6, coming 7 at end of month.

I promise that this is last time I mention her jacket, you have my word on that ok ;-).

She wanted to go outside to her friends this evening so, because I knew they'd most likely go to park despite high winds/heavy rain, I said "put your jacket on please" but she went to frontdoor, so I called her back and said "no jacket= no going to friends", so she cried and pleaded for me to change my mind, which I didn't so, she ran upstairs crying and slammed AND kicked her bedroom door so hard that it cracked so she was sent to bed at that moment (half 8).

So you handled that one. I don't understand what your question is. She didn't put on her coat and didn't go. She threw a tantrum and went to bed. I might make her pay for a door, but it sounds like you addressed it.
