3rd Trimester

Should I call for a sooner appointment?

So yesterday I was supposed to have a regular OB check up. I had one at 29w, and they started scheduling me every two weeks, I had to reschedule last week because of another appointment my son had that would have been harder to post-pone. So, yesterday, ON MY WAY THERE, they called and said they had to reschedule. First they said the next open spot was Monday the 17th, but it was at the same time my daughter is supposed to be meeting with a behavioral therapist, and those appointments are just as hard to come by and scheduled more than a month ago. So she said the NEXT open appointment they had was.. DECEMBER 3!!

I know at this point I'm not having any big issues, I'm not in any abnormal pain, so half of me thinks that it doesn't matter if I wait that long, but the other half of me is saying, "NO, you are supposed to be seen every two weeks, it's already been 3, and now if I wait til what they gave me, it will be SIX weeks between visits, even longer than the previous "every month" checkups."

So, should I call and see if they can get me in sooner, cuz maybe she didn't realize how far along I am when she was looking for open slots, or should I just say "F it" and wait and just call if I have any issues??

I'm having an RCS (haven't scheduled THAT yet, either), and I remember her saying something about scheduling a growth scan for around 36w (this is apparently routine here), and for how far I'll be, I feel like that would be cutting it close, too. Ugh, I'll probably call just cuz it's bothering me so much.

  • I'd call to see if they had an earlier appt.  The scheduler might not have realized you are to the point of every 2 weeks.  If they can't get you in earlier, ask to speak to the nurse about going 6 weeks between appts. Or can you see another OB in the practice if yours isn't available?

  • I did call and they were able to fit me in this Friday. She is literally the only OB in the practice, and the other group in town only has privileges at another hospital an hour away. So, it's her or no one, lol.

  • Glad you got in. I hate scheduling appt's over the phone. You always get the longest wait date. I called the other day to reschedule and she said they were booked until January. I am an AMA mom so because of my age I have to start weekly appt's at 34 weeks with NST's at every visit. I was a little worried so scheduled the rest of my appointments. When I went in for my visit they got me in on my 7 weekly appointments. It all depends.

  • Thanks, I did call and I went in this past Friday. My next "two week" appointment is in three weeks (lol), and my 36w growth ultrasound is scheduled for 37w. Oh well. lol.
