Baby Names

Celestial name ideas

We are having twins..they are identical so we will need either two girl or two boy names. I've been pregnant 4 times now (3 losses) so have had a lot of time to think about names..we have one boy name and one girl name definitely picked out, but I need suggestions for the other ones. If they are boys it will be Orion and ???? and if they are girls it will be Aurora and ????

Suggestions appreciated! Want something unique and with a nice meaning, but also needs to sound nice with the other name and the last name of Scamp. We are considering Nova as the other girl name, but not completely sure about that one.

I know I should wait until I know their sex but I just can't!

  • For a girl, I think Iris (the Greek goddess of the rainbow) is a good mix with Aurora (Greek goddess of the dawn).

     Stellan for a boy?

  • Whatever you pick from these, your kids are going to have fantastic names!
  • I'm freaking loving the Cassiopeia suggestion. Do it!
Started adoption process in Jan. 2011.
    3 failed matches in 2012.
    Surprise pregnancy in Aug. 2012.
Precious baby boy "HC" born May 2013.

No longer pursuing EA due to fibroid complications.
Officially on the adoption home study wait list.

  • Carina and Lyra are both constellations. They are at the top of my list if my next baby is a girl.
  • Thanks so much for a ll the suggestions!

I have some names to google :)

  • So I just found the name Caelum...I am really liking it for the other boy name. Orion and Caelum Scamp. It is a constellation and is Latin for Chisel.

  • Lyra is beautiful, and Cassiopeia is unique and beautiful as well! Could easily be shortened to Cassie, but I am not too crazy about that.

I want them to be very celestial sounding as well, which is why I am not too into names like Diana, Carina, etc where a lot of people might not know the origin.

I'm also not wanting to do a zodiac sign (I think that is what they are called? I got that pregnancy fog and seriously was calling them people's space sign) such as Aries, Virgo, etc. which is why we decided against Leo.

Caelum in Latin primarily means heaven/sky. There is also the Roman name Caelius, which is derived from Caelum.
Well now I like it even more :) That is awesome.

  • Man, we would use Cassiopeia in a heartbeat if the Cassie I knew wasn't completely crazy (like creepy, started her own religion crazy.)
    DS born 12/2012
    Little Squeaker due 6/2015
  • I love Orion and Atlas for boys, and Aurora and Lyra for girls. Also wanted to suggest Seraphina (meaning ardent, fiery).

Seraphina and Cassiopeia would be badass twin names. Just sayin'. :)

Hahaha that was totally what I was thinking but didn't want to offend any possible Cassie's on here..I have known a few Cassie's and they all gave that name a bad rep.

I really like Atlas as well..I am just not sure about it because Atlas Scamp sounds weird to me :/

    Seraphina is beautiful!

  • I am digging Orion and Atlas for boys and Aurora, Astrid, and Celeste for girls. I'm not usually big on theme names, but these are all so good.
  • I'm usually not big on themes or matchy first initial sibling names myself, but I freaking love Aurora and Astrid.

Naming two boys is harder, IMO (I'm currently struggling to name twin boys myself!) but I really love your chosen name of Orion. I think it pairs great with Apollo or Atlas.

  • I am liking Danica. I wish there weren't so many famous people with the name though.

I also just stumbled upon the name Dharma, I LOVED her character on "Dharma and Greg" Might be a silly reason to name your child, but I like the meaning too. 'In Buddhism dharma means "cosmic law and order"'
Not exactly celestial, but the way it ties into the cosmos is cool.

    Boy names ARE hard.

We did consider Astrid as the other girl name, but my fiance vetoe'd it because he says it is way to easy to make fun of, sounding too much like ass. I told him any name is gonna get made fun of, especially our weird hippy names, lol, but I kindof agree with him.

Good luck coming up with your own twin names!

  • Just found another name I like-Caia (pronounced Kye-uh) it means "Rejoice" in Latin and I love that. It's not celestial though, but who knows maybe someone stumbling across this thread will like it and use it :)

  • LOVE Orion and Atlas!!!
But do you think Atlas Scamp sounds good? I am struggling with it...I like how Orion and Atlas sound together but it just sounds odd with the last name to me. It is such a strong name.

  • Orion and Leo are awesome!!!
    Aurora and Lillian.
  • I think I just don't like Atlas Scamp because I have a little bit of a lisp and those s's together do not roll off my tongue well  8-|

  • Aurora and Orion are so awesome! How about Nova for the other girl's name?  I also love Atlas for the other boy. What a great idea you have for celestial names!

  • I have seriously been considering Atlas if I have a boy.
I love the name Capella too, for a girl...whwn I first found out I was pregnant it was one of the brightest stars in the sky and we referreD to our little baby as Capella.

    Nova
IS my other girls' name choice. I guess I didn't mention that? LOL, Yeah I am definitely set on Aurora Lynn. Nova Leigh is the second name choice but haven't fully decided on it.

Would he like the similar sounding Aurelia? Carina is lovely, but I just can't get on board with Nova. Noelle Winter Hero Xanthe Alastriona Anwen Iris Freya Isolde Amalthea Ophelia
Awww, man :( I am falling in love with Nova... To each his own! I love the different meanings of it as well. I'm not completely set on it but I just think it is so beautiful!

Those are all nice names but none just jumped out at me, ya know what I mean? Like I just want to hear the name in my head and think yes I love that.

Maybe we will just stick with Aurora after all. Ugh picking two names is so hard.

  • I think, for me, it is the scientific meaning that turns me off of Nova. That, and *to me* it sounds a bit stripperish. That is my personal feeling, though. Aurora is lovely! Your sister has a beautiful name!
That's funny because the scientific meaning is also one of the main reasons we like it, lol! Everyone is so different in their opinions.. And yes, she does. unique and beautiful and an actual name nonetheless.

My fiance has vetoe'd several names I have liked for sounding stripperish.

  • When I was in high school I read the name meaning of Cassiopeia (stars in her father's eyes).  I ALWAYS said I'd use it for a girl.  I could not convince DH and am still heartbroken about it, even though I love the name we decided on for DD.  We're considering Orion for our boy name.

Aurora & Cassiopeia /Orion & Phoenix  get my votes
    Good luck!!!
