Just curious. This is a name I like for either, but worry a bit about giving it to a boy for fear that it will turn into a name like "Leslie" or "Shannon" that will be associated very strongly with females in the future. We still have Morgan Freeman, Morgan Spurlock etc. But the handful of Morgans I knew in school were all girls.
Re: Would you still consider "Morgan" a unisex name?
Morgan is one of a few names I wouldn't be able to guess just by looking at it. Others for me:
Taylor
Blair
Casey
Riley (yeah, contentious on this board, but if I read "Riley Smith" I couldn't guess that person's sex)
Morgan James
Morgan John
Morgan Brooks
Morgan Daniel
Morgan Reid
Morgan Lucas

Funny some of you mention the name "Taylor", we really like that one as well but more for a middle name (it is a family name). We like it for several of our potential names, Morgan included. Morgan Taylor.... guess we just REALLY want to leave people guessing huh?
What site do you use to determine baby name popularity??
That's really interesting- I have been looking at the popular names in my state by year, you can definitely see popular names dropping.
In my birth year the most popular name was "Ashley" and it was given to 2,059 girls in the state of MI that year (SN my mom almost named me Ashley, the nurse told her "wow that's our 6th Ashley born today!" And my mom changed her mind immediately). In 2013 the most popular name was Emma, and it was only given to 640 girls in MI.
Morgan cracks that popular list in a few recent years, but never many over 200 born in a year (most years less than 200). I'm not sure how much weight to give this in qualifying/disqualifying names!
Yes. For me, I consider a name unisex when I have to question the sex upon seeing the name. When I see Morgan, I'm immediately going to think "is that a boy or girl?" which would be the same with names like Alex or Sam.
Other names, like Kelly, Leslie, or Shannon, I assume are girls now, even though they were traditionally boys names.
I only know two people named Morgan. An adult woman and a 3 year old boy.
I love the name Morgan on both girls and boys, please use it!
