  • Baby #1 thought my water broke at Walmart, nope just massively peed myself. :D water was manually ruptured when I was 6cm into labor.

Baby #2 it broke as his head was delivered. I wouldn't let them break it manually.

  • I'm terrified of my water breaking at work (I'm a teacher). That being said, I have an open bottle of water with me at all times in case I need to throw it on the floor and pretend I dropped the water LOL. Then I have to smoothly call the nurse to get coverage so I can leave my class. Ugh so hoping it never comes to this!!!
Married my best friend 7/2/11 - Furbaby born 7/9/11 and brought into our home 9/1/11

BFP#1:   2/2/13 ~ exact m/c date unknown but around 3/20 at 10 weeks ~ diagnosed with PMP ~ D&C on 4/5 ~ TTA for at least 1 year due to PMP ~ cleared to TTC 1/14

    BFP#2:   2/7/14 ~ m/c 2/20/14 ~ possibly due to chemical pregnancy ~ TG no D&C is needed

Surprise BFP#3:  4/4/14 ~ super duper extra happy (and nervous) about this one - EDD 12/9/14!!!

John Joseph was born on 12/12/14 at 7 lbs. 11 oz.  He is the most beautiful rainbow baby we could have wished for!

  • Wow, this thread has been educational. Lol. I am seriously surprised how many people have taken precautions to protect their beds, cars, office chairs etc. I hadn't given this any thought at all until I read this thread.... I think primarily because I have read that 10-15% statistic so many times that I have just assumes that I didn't really need to worry about it. Lol.
  • I worked at a photo studio and this lady had her water break during maternity photos. That was exciting. We called for a clean up and I thought the guy was going to pass out or vomit when he asked what exactly it was he was cleaning. Haha. Luckily it was on the white vinyl and not on the curtain or the carpet. Made it A LOT easier to clean.
  • Thank you for this. This thread made me realise i really need to get a waterproof mattress protector for the bed as we are renting a furnished house prior to the birth and there is no way i want to have to shell out for a new mattress!

  • My water broke in the middle of the night as I was rolling over trying to get comfortable. I grabbed an old tshirt off of my night stand until DH got a towel. Our sheets needed washed, but that was it. The towel was soaked by the time I got to the bathroom. We just got a new mattress so on top of our mattress pad I put one of DSs crib mattress protectors. And I'm not sure if I believe the whole only 10-15% of peoples water breaks. Everyone I know has had their water break before labor started. Who knows! Everyone is different. I hope mine breaks on it's own again though.

Sort of on the same subject... Did most of you put some sort of waterproof mattress pad on your bed? My H just asked me about this and it hadn't really occurred to do it (don't really want the crinkly sound but also don't want fluid all over my expensive mattress if it were to happen that way)
    Edt: dumb iPad

I'm using puppy pads because I have a ton.
  • I just saw these in the pharmacy yesterday...some people may be interested in checking them out!

  • My MW was checking my fundal measurement today and was like "OOOH, there's a lot of fluid in there. Be careful when your water breaks." Suddenly a fear I didn't have washed over me. I can just imagine it breaking while I'm working. I'm an esthetician that basically only does Brazilian waxes all day. I can just imagine ripping off a strip and then being like "oh shit, my water just broke."
  • @nextworldwonder‌ I will be asking my dr this but you might know from experience - how long after a csection do your clients typically wait before resuming Brazilian waxes?
  • With ds#1 they had to break my water for me.  Ds#2 was a C-section, so I've never actually had my water break on its own.

  • @ssm1218 They usually wait until the scar is totally healed. And then even after that, there will always be the possibility of a residual "twinge" when waxing right at the scar. Not the entire Brazilian, just right where the scar is. That's how my clients have explained it. Some get it, some don't, some only get it sometimes.

The dr had to break mine with both kids, but a teacher where I used to teach had hers break while she was sitting at her desk. She had to send a kid nextdoor to get the teacher (her phone was not close to her desk) and the other teacher took her kids out to "extra recess". I was terrified this was going to be me because I was teaching still when I was expecting #1

Off topic- I am sure you are used to it, but the idea of dehairing strange vulvas all day makes me a little woozy.

  • This thread has made me legitimately afraid of my water breaking anywhere other than L&D. Like everywhere I go now I am afraid my water is going to break. Damn being this close to the end is frightening.

I do it 11 hours a day, 4 days a week. Honestly, I don't even see it anymore. All I see is hair that needs to be gone. My salon actually does manzilians as well ;)

On topic- I had a dream last night that my water broke while handing out cupcakes for DD1s birthday at school with my ex. Her birthday is 3 days before my due date. A whole new terror washed over me!

I'll third this one. It's been a fear since day one, definitely still a fear after reading this lol

    Progress..
  • My hubby and I are always at Walmart so my biggest fear is it will happen in Walmart or at church!! Yikes
  • Nope, not until I was in labor with both kids

  • I actually had the on call doctor pop it as he was asking permission. I wasn't upset that it happened but a little irritated he asked almost like "I'm just gonna do this. Shit she might get mad so I better let her know".

Mine came in and asked if she could break it after she checked my cervix then as she was checking it just popped she looked extremly suprised it happened when it did

  • I agree with the new terror of public water breaking (or in my car). DH ran over a speed bump too fast the other day, and I was certain it was going down! I'm officially laying puppy pads on the seats of my car until the baby arrives.
