Keepsakes for LO

What have you gotten or do you plan on getting for LO to hand down to their family one day? Are you collecting anything with their birth year on it? Are you putting something special in their baby book? I know we talked about Christmas stockings and ornaments already, anything new??

Feel free to post pictures!

Re: Keepsakes for LO

  • I'm looking for some easy, yet meaningful keepsakes for my son. My BFF got him something from the world series game she was at so that's going in his baby book. I plan on also putting the newspaper for the day he is born in the book.

What is something super special DH and I can get for him now to hand down to his children one day??

  • I love these ideas!! I guess I never thought about getting the paper on the day after. Definitely putting that on my list. Also, loooooving the comic book idea. I married a geek, going to talk to DH and give him that responsibility. Lol perfect!!
  • One of my shower gifts was a 2014 coin set - it has a 2014 nickel, dime, quarter and toonie, and a special loonie with a stork on it. (Apologies to non-Canadians, who may think some of those words are 'loony!')
  • I am giving LO my cabbage patch doll. I hope she loves her as much as I do. She also will in herit my grandmothers wedding china from me. I am making a scrapbook for her so I'll put details of everything from the day of in it.

For me the most sentimental thing is LO is being baptized in the family christening gown made from my grandmas wedding dress. She'll be the third generation wearing it.
  • Coins are a perfect idea. They are easy to keep and store as well. Now you got me thinking.... @minibean16‌

@MissN06‌ - I still have my cabbage latch doll too! What a beautiful thing to do with your grandmother's wedding gown. LO will definitely cherish her gown. I love that.
  • I will get a silver cup and likely a pewter rattle. I know that sounds very "grow up with a silver spoon in your mouth" but my siblings and I did actually have silver cups engraved with our initials, which we drank out of every night. They were very special. We'll wait a bit to get the silver cup, partly because baby won't be able to use it yet, and partly because it will be quite expensive, but are planning to get the rattle for Christmas.

  • We have a special green crochet baby blanket we got with DS. I don't even remember where it came from, but DS HAD to have it for a long time. We've made a special point of using it with each baby afterwards. It'll probably go to the first of the kids to have children of their own.

  • You guys are making me feel bad. I'm more of a picture person. I don't like to keep a lot of stuff. All I saved for DD were her first pair of baby shoes and a quilt. she still plays with some stuffed animals she got as a baby though so I'll probably save a couple of those too.

  • We use the same idea as @StacyMarie33‌. We call it their forever box. If SD does something special at school or gets awards she puts it in her box.

DD1's has her hospital stuff, special outfits, things from her Gpa (he passed a year ago), and other random special things.

DD2's will start accumulating all the same. I have a special one in there for her MY BLOOD PRESSURE CUFF from the hospital! I kept that damn thing for the baby book.

Same as above. All the hospital keepsakes. First outfit, ect. I'm also making the christening gown out of mine and my mother's wedding dresses. We also have several handmade blankets from various family members that will be kept safe.

At the suggestion of pinterest, I've also gone ahead and reserved my son's email address. So far we've sent him pictures and videos from his various ultrasounds. Also planning on sending screenshots of well wishes text messages from the day he's born, ect.

  • Not sure if this qualifies but I'm saving the hats they get in the hosptial and their coming home outfit.  My dad's side has a tradition of making a quilt for each new baby born.  Mine has different family members embroidered on each square so that is waht I did for the boys and my niece and nephew.  My mom and I have been working on little girls already.  My goal is the baby gets their quilt by their 2nd Christmas.  These are the boys quilts

  • So many great ideas on here! Thank you all so much. I think the special box idea is perfect for what I'm looking for. I totally forgot about making LO an email address but I read about that awhile back. I'm totally doing that!!
