Holiday gift for nanny

I didn't want to piggy-back on the similar thread for daycare teachers since it may get missed.   For those using a nanny or other type of single provider type person, what is your gift budget?   I'm going to give her a gift card, since she's already mentioned she prefer to give & receive them, but I'm unsure of the amount.  Is $100 too much/too little?      Do you give a holiday bonus??   I've never had an employee before, so I'm stumped.

Re: Holiday gift for nanny

  • Is this person full-time or part-time? Older, experienced nanny or college student (I ask bc I nannied in college two full days a week).

If it's a part-time college student I'd say $100 gift card is fine. If you have a full-time 9-5 nanny then I'd probably go with Babybarlow and do a week's salary.
  • I'm glad I asked!  Thanks ladies.   She is full-time.

  • I think 100 is too much FOR ME because we don't have the money to do that. If you aren't breaking the bank then if I were your nanny I would go ballistic at Target. Do what you can afford. If 100 is nbd then definitely go for it. She will love it!

    It's a BOY

  • Ok, @babybarlow2014 & @mimaloo:  Same question, with a twist.   What do you think is appropriate for a nanny that's been on the job for 9 days??   Our current nanny resigned and the new nanny starts on the 15th.

  • We will probably give our nanny $500 as a bonus.

  • I would actually do more if she had been with us the entire year and not just since September.

  • Maybe $50 since she will have just started. I don't think she should expect a bonus since she is just starting, so any extra amount would be nice.
I agree with this. Most corporate companies that provide holiday bonuses have a minimum employment timeframe you need to meet to be eligible. I don't see this situation being any different.
