Night shift

My sitter gave me notice, and since we couldn't really afford her anyway, DH and I have decided to just work opposite one another for awhile. One or two times a month, I will work night shifts, but when I come home, he will go to work. I'm looking for someone to come to my home for a few hours the next morning so I can get some sleep, but I'm a little bit anxious that I wont be able to sleep at all. The reason I never worked nights before was because I couldn't manage to sleep during the day, and that was before I had DD. With her in the house, I wonder if I will get any sleep, even if someone is around to watch her. My question is... I know some of you out there work nights, so how does that work for you? Do you only work nights when you know DH or someone will be around to help out the next morning? I already feel sleep deprived, but the idea of 1-2 days per month with no sleep at all is a little daunting.

Re: Night shift

  • I work nights and days. When I work nights during the week, DS goes to the sitter while I sleep. This is actually kind of nice because it is the only time I can sleep 6 hours straight. On the weekends when I work nights, DH has him here at home. He tries to take him out and do stuff so I can sleep but they are home a lot. I definitely sleep better with no one home but I still get enough sleep if they are home. I'm usually so tired, I don't wake as easily. I do hear when DS cries especially during naps cause his room is close to ours. I think it is doable but I would try to get someone at their home or facility
  • I've had my aunt come and watch LO from about 7am -11am and it makes a huge difference. After awhile LO got on my schedule and started waking at 7 for an hour so and then would go back to sleep for a good 2 hour nap. I just nap when she naps most days.
