Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

How tall is your LO?

At DD's 18 month check up (which was really 2 days after she turned 19 months due to scheduling issues) she was measured at 36.25 inches tall.  My kid is 3 feet tall???  I shouldn't have been surprised since I've had to buy some 3T clothing for her recently but still.  Where is my baby??  I'm only 5'4" so she's going to pass me in no time!

Anyone with more than one LO - when does the growth level out?  I'm going crazy with how fast she's outgrowing clothing.

And one annoyance - I hate when people assume how old DD is and then look at me like I must be lying when they ask and I give them the honest answer.  I always have to follow it up with "yes, she's tall for her age."  I feel like constantly hearing that is going to give DD a complex before she's 5.

Re: How tall is your LO?

  • My 20 month old is 34 and a half inches.  She is adopted and taller than her big sister, who is two, but not by much.  my two year old is 34 inches.  She is taking after her big sister who at seven is still quite short.
  • My DD is 15 months old and 33.5 inches. DH is 6'3" and I'm 5'8" (and also the shortest one in my family). We're guessing she'll be pretty tall.

FWIW I got all my height pretty quickly and then stopped growing by age 12. It was frustrating when I was younger being a whole head taller than everyone else, but by high school most of my friends had caught up. My family used to joke that the only reason I married DH was the 7 inch height difference. ;)

  • At lo's 15 month checkup he was right under 33 inches! We are a tall family I hope the trend continues! And yes OP your little one is tall ad that's awesome!
  • She stood on a stool today and was past DH's hip height wise.  He said she'd probably be that tall in kindergarten.  That's only like 3 years away!

  • My 16 month old is 34 inches. People always think he's older because of his size too. I sometimes feel they are expecting different behavior and don't realize how little he is.
  • At Jake's 18-month appointment, he was 30 inches. I'm 5'0" and DH is 5'10". Doc said he's on the curve, so he's not concerned.

  • I don't remember the number but she's at 98% and up to my belly button I'm 5'1. She's going to be taller than me in like a year at this rate! Her dad is tall...

  • At 18 months LO measured 35.5 inches and like 32 lbs. SO and I have a bet going for over or under 37 at his 2 year appt, I picked under and it's going to be close!

I completely agree with how annoying it can get when people make comments about his size. He has always been on the bigger side so we constantly get oh he's so big! Or people looking at us like LO is doing something he shouldn't because he should know better by now but really he's too young to know. Another thing that gets me is when he's playing with other kids, I feel like he's going to get bullied because little kids think he's older than he is and he seems to get pushed around a bit and he's the sweetest thing so it breaks my heart. I mean it would break my heart regardless but he really is this gentle giant. A kid ran into him and pushed him out of the way and LO got all flustered and said sorry to the kid like it was his fault! It made me so sad for him.
  • DD3 was 35" at her 18 month appointment. DD1 was also 35" at 18 months and is now 55" at 8.5 years. DD2 was 34 1/4" at 18 months and is 43" at 4 years. They're all 90% or higher for height. I'm only 5'4" but DH is 6'3" b

  • Mine was 33" at his 12 month appt, off the charts. I am terrified. I'm 5'5", but husband is 6'8". Hoping for a basketball prodigy, I guess?!
