Re: Headaches

  • Yes! I would mention it to the doctor. Not bc you need to be concerned with the health of your baby, but bc they may be able to give you something to help or maybe you can try physical therapy to ease the headaches. I get terrible cluster headaches and I was prescribed a medication that has Tylenol, caffeine and so muscle relaxant. Still safe to take will pregnant, but it really helps!! Good luck!

it's called fioricet. It worked pretty well for me but you want to take it sparingly as the Butalbital in it is addictive. So if you were to take it everyday for the remainder of your pregnancy once baby is born he/she will have to withdraw from it.
  • Maybe simple options, but try increasing your water intake, caffeine with the tylenol, warm baths, and adequate rest.

So much yes to this.  I have been having increasingly frequent and increasingly painful headaches.  I plan to mention it to my OBGYN at my appointment this Friday.  I gave up caffeine when I got pregnant, I am 15w4d, but it's been so long that I'm not sure that would impact it now.  For now, I have found that cold compresses and dark rooms helped.
    Feel better, mama.

    **EDIT**
A friend of mine just mentioned that peppermint oil (a few drops on a cloth breathed in or massaged onto temples) is supposed to help!

  • I get headaches when I don't eat enough protein and when I don't eat frequently enough. Maybe try small, high protein snacks between meals? (Peanut butter on apple slices or handful of trail mix are some of my favorite snacks.). Of course drink plenty of water throughout the day. I hope the headaches lessen.

My headaches have been insane. The only thing that is helping is caffeine. It sucks!

I've had terrible headaches/migraine I'm 20 weeks now and FTM... I have always been susceptible to migraines since a kid. My Doc says that's why I'm getting them more frequently. But I have noticed that eating on time and food with iron tends prevent the headaches. I've also been craving coffee which is weird I don't drink coffee at all.

I have been having a hard time with headaches throughout my pregnancy (currently 23 weeks).  I second what she said, the cold compress helps, and I have tried the peppermint essential oil on my temples, it seems to make a difference.  I wouldn't say it totally makes my headaches go away, but definitely helps.  Also, make sure you're drinking plenty of water, as others have said.

Good luck, hope you feel better, mama!

  • Ditto what everyone else has said. I don't drink caffeine so, sometimes, one cup of tea fixes my headaches (which are often migraines). I was prescribed Fioricet in pregnancy but only took it 2 times so far-when I really couldn't function any further. Also, stay hydrated and keep your sugar level decent. I know it's frustrating but I hope it passes. My worst headaches were from 14-16 weeks. Hang in there!

  • I had the same issue.  After speaking with my doctor she said to try caffeine (pre-pregnancy I was a several cup of coffee a day drinker but quit while we were TTC).  A small cup of coffee each morning has done wonders for my headaches!  I have also found that having my neck rubbed and applying a cool compress to my eyes and warm to my neck have given me temporary relief.
