NCDR Scratching

L has started clawing his scalp again at night. His skin is slightly dry, and he gets eczema very easily. I try to put lotion on the dry areas, and we have a prescription for the bad spots, but I don't know what to do with his head since he has hair. I already only bathe him like every third day, and we only use Cetaphil since it's unscented. What else can I do?

  • Is he okay with coconut oil?
  • Yes, I think so.

  • Alex did this a few weeks back and actually made her scalp bleed. I put a little coconut oil on since it looked less greasy than cetaphil. And every time I give her a bath, i lather her head up with some baby oil before I wash her hair. Seems to be helping a little

  • Dd had a little bit of cradle cap that she itched at for a while. The pedi told me to use a tiny drop of dandruff shampoo. It clered it up very quickly and the scratching stopped. What about tea tree oil?

  • Can you just put the lotion/coconut oil/prescription/whatever on his head before bed? A very good friend of mine had awful psoriasis on her scalp. She used to put her cream on her head before bed. She made a couple of pillow cases out of old towels so her normal ones would not get stained. It helped a lot.

If that doesn't work can you make him some PJ's with hand covers for when it's really bad so even if he itches it won't hurt him?

  • Coconut oil. And comb it so it gets down to his scalp. I would use coconut oil or goat milk lotion this way. The teeth of the comb helped scrape off some of the dry skin too
