How often are you giving Tylenol/Motrin?

There was like a week and a half where we were giving it every night before bed. Now we've been giving it once in the middle of the night for like a week because she is waking up and crying and screaming.
Its so hard to tell if its teething or behavioral. And I don't want to keep medicating her if she doesn't need it. Bit I also don't want to do Ferber if she's in pain. And rocking her back to sleep works until I put her down and then it just starts all over. I'm at a loss. Just curious what you guys are doing/have done related to this.

  • When she is irritable and we judge by her cues if it seems like it more than just tired or hungry.

If she ate recently, it's not regular sleep times etx and she is upset. ALao she has taken to sucking her thumb more when her tooth is bothering her

  • So we held off on meds because I felt like we were giving it too often. TWO HOURS later, she let a huge one rip and passed out. How are we supposed to know what is wrong?!?!?! I apparently don't know the difference between her mad cry and pain cry and feel pretty shitty.

  • Very rarely...pretty much only if he has a fever.

  • So far with Charlie we've done it at bedtime for a few days at a time with each tooth. With my first, I asked our pedi how much was too much. She said Advil once daily at bedtime for a month was fine.

  • We haven't given it yet because we haven't felt like we had to yet. There was one night we strongly considered it when she had a cold and a 100.7 fever, and refused to go to sleep. (Didn't really go down for more than 30 minutes until after 2am.) But I was hesitant since I know low-grade fevers help fight off infection, and didn't want to inhibit her body's natural response. We gave lots of comfort and by the next day she was still getting better. (If she had a high-grade fever I would have definitely given it.)

If there's no fever, we only give it if he is inconsolable and we've done everything else - fed, diaper, nap, teething tablets, distraction.

This for us too. If I think it's teething I only give it at night. We stick to regular teething meds (tablets and camelia boiron) during the day. I try to give teethers and frozen things soaked in diluted chamomile tea before giving teething meds. Tylenol, ect., has only been given a handful of times.

  • We have given tylenol a handful of times before bedtime once we could see her teeth poking through the gums. If she wakes up crying in the middle of the night I change her diaper and either rock or nurse back to sleep.

I agree with a lot of you that I can't tell the difference between her cries. This is another reason why I don't do cry it out.
  • If lo wakes up crying at night and still screams when we pick her up, we know she's in pain and give tylenol. If she stops crying right away, we know it's something else and that's she's not in pain.

  • When she is sick, once or twice a day. It's the last resort though. We try everything else first then go to that.
  • Haven't given any drugs to LO yet.
No fevers, no obvious teething pain...
  • We do Motrin at night and this past week it's been a few times. We were alternating during the day for one day that seemed especially painful but mostly cuddles/nursing and teething toys do the trick during the day.
