Trouble TTC

Introduction - Kids briefly mentioned(not mine)

Hi Everyone! (edit: sorry - this ended up being way longer than I thought it would be)

I intro'd on TTGP back in September, but haven't been very active - mostly just lurking - and have also been lurking around here. We are starting the testing process, and I feel that this board may be a better fit for me/my situation, and I want to thank everyone for what I have already learned just by reading the various threads and check-ins. I know there is a big learning curve with the language and world of infertility diagnosis/treatment, so I appreciate your patience as I play along. I keep the blog acronym guide up and at the ready when I am on here. :-)

Our situation:
  • DH and I are both 27
  • Married 10/13
  • TTC 2/14 (I know it's not usually considered infertility until TTC for 12mo - I am getting to the why next)
  • I had been on Depo for 1.5 years, received my last shot in 8/13 and then switched to the pill
  • Stopped taking the pill 9/13
  • Have not had a natural cycle since the withdrawal bleed 9/13
  • 1 round of Provera 2/14
  • I have been DX with PCOS by exclusion per my OBGYN - I have not seen an RE yet
  • Have both Amenorrhea and Anovulation (or don't have?)
  • I don't temp because I haven't cycled since February and am not sure it would even do any good. I intend to start once I do cycle
Fun stuff - we have 1 fur-baby dog named Goober (profile pic!), I love to crochet - I mostly make blankets for other people, and I love to read - primarily young adult fiction because it lets me take my mind off of everything!

We had a fertility consult with my OBGYN a few weeks ago, and she prescribed Provera and Clomid 50mg. I had already read about the dangers of Clomid, and while I got the medications I have decided to not take them quite yet. We are going to get a SA for DH (OBGYN already wrote the order for it - just have to do it and take it in), and I am planning for an HSG and discussing the additional monitoring. I don't want to waste a medicated cycle if my tubes are blocked, and know that the HSG can see other important things that might be wrong that would make me a bad candidate for Clomid. My OB so far has been very open to the additional testing/BW/follicular scans, so I am hoping to try working through her for a few cycles before having to move on to an RE.

Right now DH and I are struggling with deciding when to start the testing/treatment. I want to start yesterday of course, but at this point will the two months until next year's deductible make that big of a difference? Especially with the added stress of the holidays? I am just not sure. I also don't really have anyone to talk to about this except for DH which is hard because he is a man of few words. Most of my friends are already done having kids, and had no trouble at all conceiving. And my friends that don't already have them are not even close to the point where they are considering it, so that is just as hard to relate.

I am looking forward to being a part of this community. I wish everyone good luck and can't wait to get to know you!

  • Welcome! Sorry you have to be here. :(

Since you haven't been able to cycle and try since BC, it makes sense to work with your OB and try to get cycling to give you guys half a chance! Perhaps get an RE consult scheduled for a few months away in case you need it? (And it would be awesome to cancel!)

  • I haven't gotten any ultrasounds, but she did do some initial bloodwork and the only thing that came back abnormal was my DHEA Sulfate levels, which were only slightly elevated at 353 (where the normal range is 99-340 is what they told me). I don't know the rest of the details because this was before I did all of my reading and didn't know what to ask for.

Thanks for the suggestion about an RE consult - I will definitely look at my insurance to see where is covered! Honestly at this point I haven't even looked to far into it too see if infertility is covered at all, since we were just going to stick with my OBGYN initially.

  • Welcome!
    TTC#1 since Aug 2013, I'm 37, DH 41.
Maya Arvigo Abdominal massage (daily self care), plus TTC meditations.
I'm very sensitive to diet (gluten, avoid processed foods) and environment. Have a history of inflammation and tendinitis before going off gluten in 2009.
July 2014 - RE Visit #1: Eggs look good, Endometrioma on R ovary, HSG showed blocked R tube close to ovary. DH SA normal
DX: Endometriosis probably the IF cause and gunking up tubes.  Since egg reserve is high, RE says I can wait a couple months and then get laproscopic surgery to remove endo & clear tube.  If that doesn't help then move to IVF.
Dec 2014 - Saw new RE - does not recommend surgery on tube as it isn't likely to help.  Doubts I have endometriosis.  My endometrioma shrunk to neglible size (yay!)
    Seriously considering IVF in March/April
    12/17/14 - Natural BFP!
  • Welcome. I don't have any personal experience with PCOS but the advice above is solid.
I have also found it hard to find people to relate to and this board has already helped me a lot even though I'm still at the beginning of the journey.
    Good Luck!

    TTC since Sept. 2013
09/14: New anterior 3cm Fibroid on U/S, no change in size 11/14
    10/14: SA normal
12/14: next RE appointment - cancelled due to BFP
    BFP on 11/21/14, EDD 08/03/15

  • I just wanted to say welcome. PP covered most of what I was going to say. Good luck!

  • Welcome!! I'm sorry that your here, but you will find great support here from wonderful women going through similar situations.I don't know if I have PCOS because I have yet to be tested on my end. DH has low sperm count. I start the fertility treatment process this week with a Baseline U/S. Good luck with everything and we have a fur baby named Barkevious. We spoil and love him to pieces as if he was an actual child. It's great having a pet to get through this. Your dog is adorable!! Here is a pic of mine

@mharnicker Barkevious's name is awesome! And he is adorable too! I love a scruffy dog. :-) Goober definitely helps, although we are going through a healing process with him too - he just recently tore his ACL. He gets better every day, which is wonderful. We elected to not have the surgery to repair it because he is already 9 years old.

    Edit: I hate run-on sentences.

  • Welcome! I also stopped taking the pill in 9/13 and we were doing the NTNP approach. Then in 2/14 we officially started TTC too! I applaud you for not taking the Clomid and requesting testing first. It's extremely important. I do want to add that it may not hurt to contact a RE and see how long it can take to get in. We waited a month and a half before we could even be seen. You could also ask the RE office what tests they want you to have done before starting treatment. That way your OB/GYN could possibly order them while you wait to get into the RE. My OB/GYN had us do a SA, lots of blood work, ultrasounds and the HSG prior to my RE appt. I thought we were going to be ready to go for my first RE appt but then once I had my appt he wanted to do additional blood work, a repeat SA and a SIS so we were actually benched another month! So the testing process actually took us 2 1/2 months...which stunk. Anyway, I was diagnosed with PCOS. In non 3T news, we have two rescue pups who we treat as our babies! Love them! I hope your testing goes well and you get answers soon :)
