pre-IVF appt - need opinions!

OK, sorry I've been MIA for a while. We've all been sick, traveling, and just kind of surviving. I went for my pre-IVF appt this AM, after being on BCP for almost 3 weeks. She only counted 9 follicles. I have no idea what this means, but it seems low? So of course now I am freaking out and already thinking this isn't going to work. Somebody please talk me off a ledge. I'm still kind of clueless on it all (even after the class) and still in shock that we're starting this and that we had 4 failed IUIs - definitely just kind of in a funk. 

I know it only takes one, but it still doesn't leave me very hopeful for whatever reason. Ack. I hate this never ending mind game. 

Anyway, so I am still waiting on the call back from the nurse but right now the plan is to start Gonal-F and Menopur on Tuesday then go back on Friday. 

Any advice would be really appreciated (and sorry for sounding like a crazy person, though it's kind of how I feel right now!)

I assume this was your suppression check and that she was looking at your Antral Follicle Count. Is that right? And, aren't you at Shady Grove? What office? I only ask because there was a little discrepancy between what Dr. B saw and what Dr. G saw. Traditionally, my AFC was usually around 12-15, but in my successful cycle Dr B saw 6. I freaked because my most recent FSH had gone way up and I was terrified I was spiraling into DOR because of the quick change. I emailed Dr G and he reviewed my ultrasound images. He said they looked like previous cycles. So, there is a subjective nature to the images. And, either way, I ended up getting 17 eggs/ 16 embryos from that cycle, so it didn't really matter. I did need a very high dose of meds, but it all worked out in the end.

And, nine would be a fabulous number, regardless. Dr G told me a great IVF cycle will yield between 8-12 eggs, so you'd be just right. Sounds like things are going great!

I have heard of people getting more or less than their starting follicle number. I think 9 at the suppression check is good! In any case, you really don't want to make too many eggs/embryos in a cycle. Being in the neighborhood of 10 is a great place to be! I had 9 mature eggs in my IVF-- 6 of those fertilized. 1 is my DS and 3 are frozen awaiting a transfer. I asked my RE if I should do another fresh cycle now before I transfer my frosties (Since I am spiraling towards DOR and I am 40). My RE said strongly no since we don't want to create a whole lot more embryos than we will end up using-- as we only want one more child.

@Ruthie - yes it was supression check and yes to SGF. I usually see Dr. Khan but was at Annadale this AM so it was just the sonographer.

I don't want to mis speak but I wouldn't be too alarmed with 9..... If you got 9 eggs at retrieval that's enough to work with. Am I being clueless? FX - I hope this works for you....

9 is good! I had 8...6 fertilized, but only 3 grew enough to be transferred. 3 transferred and I'm pregnant with a girl. IVF was sooo stressful.
